If your PH goes up annoyingly quickly, or makes sudden jumps up, then you should lower TA. You might also need to lower TA if your CH level is too high.
It will only raise PH. Acid lowers both TA and PH, its the aeration that raises the PH back up - so you can repeat the acid addition process that eventually lowers the TA into range.
