Hayward Super Pump leak behind seal plate

Recently my 1.5HP super pump lost an impeller so it was serviced and a new seal kit was installed with the new impeller. Now the pump is leaking between the seal plate and motor mount plate, leaking as in a small stream of water. Had a pool service tech come out and he tightened the bolts attaching the seal plate some more to see if it would help. During normal operation I assume the shaft seal is supposed to keep all water out from behind the seal plate, if the bolt were a little loose (loose as in 15 ft pounds vs. 40) would this cause such a leak or is it likely the shaft seal isn't doing it's job? Thanks

A leak around the motor shaft would be the shaft seal, a leak around the seal plate and the motor housing means a problem with the seal plate gasket. It could indeed be something as simple as the bolt tension not being right, but it is more likely to be either debris affecting the gasket or a bad gasket.
