How man hours a day should the pump be run? When do most people run the pump am or pm? Electricity is cheaper in the pm but I was just wondering what the though process was?
Your ideal pump run time depends on the relative size of your pump and your pool and varies so much from pool to pool that it is impossible to make a specific recommendation. There is an article in Pool School on how to find out your ideal pump run time.
Most people like to have the pump running when they are swimming, and otherwise running the pump when your electric rates are low is a good idea.
Is your pump a single speed or a 2-speed?
What size is your pump?
How many hours do you run it now?
My thought is that if your electric rate is lower at night then I'd run it mostly at night with a little in the middle of the day just to circulate it a little. I'd also shoot for a little more than 1 turnover per day of runtime.
