Ph Minus...Get at the supermarket?

Hi all,

My Ph is around 8.0 and I've been advised to bring this down to 7.2 - 7.4 before I even think adding chlorine. In the UK the chemical to drop Ph costs around $45.00 for approx 5Kgs. Is there a 'supermarket' product I can use instead?

Plain old muriatic acid. Comes in gallon jugs-about 5 bucks here. Hardware stores should have it. You need to know what your TA level is too.

In the UK it tends to be called spirits of salts.

It's hydrochloric acid. It's used to clean bricks and concrete, so you might find it at construction product dealers.
