I have found a Hayward Preflex filter in my area and no pool company can answer questions about it. Hayward site talks about putting DE in it and how well it filters, but I cannot get an answer about using it with my SWG. Does anyone have or have used one of these filters and what kind of results can I expect from using it. I have an 18" round above ground pool that did very well this year but would like to replace the old sand filter I was using.
Thanks for all your help.

Which model Hayward Perflex filter? DE40AC or the DE50AC
What is the size and flow rate of your pump?

I cannot get an answer about using it with my SWG
There should not be a problem with using a SWCG and a DE filter.
Do you have a specific concern?

Here is a comparison of Sand filters to DE filters:

If your pool "did very well this year", why are you looking to replace the filter?
Proper water chemistry and a correctly sized sand filter are an excellent combination for sparkling clear water.

In normal daytime lighting, you may not be able to see the difference in water clarity between Sand and DE.
At night, in a lighted pool, you can clearly see a difference. :)
