Bleach adds nothing but chlorine.
Tabs add CYA and lower Ph and are slow to dissolve. No way tabs can keep up with my demand. And many of the walmart tabs contain Copper which turns hair green, can stain pool surfaces.
If you want to use pool store chlorine, just buy the jugs of 10-12.5% liquid shock. It's the same chemical, just higher concentration than bleach. But, bleach is usually cheaper.

Hmm, you were off by like 2x, that is weird, seems as though pH to begin was off. Could you do that pH test again? If is is still that low, you may try aeration or someone here may be able to help you adjust.
