2" pump inlet and outlet to a 1.5" pool inlet?

I got this pump in today for to test and review.

Anyways, I have a Best Way 18" pool with two supply out of the pool at 1.25" each to a 1.5" union and the return to the pool is a 1.5". My current Proline 1HP pump is connected through some stepdowns and stepups with the sand filter in-between.

The instructions that came with the new pump call for a 2" connection and piping. Any issues using the existing piping? I am considering putting my previously used in wall skimmer as a third water source instead of a Intex over the wall skimmer and one other port. Would adding that third inlet hurt me water flow wise?

Essentially, you cannot have too many return sources.

That said, I question that size pump for your pool (and the pipe, to an extent). I would think a 3/4 or 1 hp pump would be a better match. Were you happy with the performance of your previous pump? What is the amperage draw on the pump you are testing?

Current in place pump is fine size wise, I requested the 1HP pump as well and will try that one when it comes in.

The amperage on the test one is 15.5 amp. I have a 20 amp outlet for it.

So, the one return that is in the pool is fine and I can increase the number of supply sources to the pump. I would just see an increase in pressure returning?

Actually, you would get a somewhat lower psi since you are offering less resistance to the pump.

15.5 amps is a true 1.5 HP pump (or close) and It is pretty much overkill. You could save some money (both front money and consumption money) by staying with a 1 HP and you will still have plenty of "oomph".

Thank you. I will get it plumbed in and can swap it out for the 1hp if I have any issues.
