Good Morning. I just finished my 1st closing and have a couple of questions. I used a Cyclone blower with a threaded fitting from the skimmer and blew out the lines from there. I lowered the water level below the skimmer and both returns. When blowing out the returns I let the cyclone blow for about 1 1/2 minutes then plugged one of the returns and then held my hand over the other return for about 6-7 seconds and let go. This would cause a small amount of water to ‘burp’ out. I did this 3 times to help purge as much water as I could from the returns. I then added approx 1/2 gallon of antifreeze to each of the returns before plugging the lines. Should I be worried about the possibility of additional water remaining in the lines? Also, I used expanding rubber plugs that the pool company used last year when closing. These plugs stick out from the pool wall. Should I worry about ice dislodging the plugs? I have attached a picture of the installed plug. Thanks!!DD62D1DF-6103-43A9-96D5-50B4BBC8EA6D.jpeg

Those plugs work fine, but do have some risk of being pulled/knocked out by ice. Threaded fittings are always preferred. Any pool store will have them also, for just a couple bucks more.

The threads you see are actually part of the eyeball fitting and unscrew. The threaded plug then goes in the wall fitting once that other part is out.

Thanks for noticing that. It definitely fits better now! My pool company has used the threaded ones in the past and last year I noticed one of them leaking. They came out and replaced it with one of the rubber plugs. If any water does get in there does the antifreeze that I added help to prevent damage?

It depends how much water. Some water will be kept in a slushy state if it wants to freeze. If the pipe fills because the plug gets pulled out, the antifreeze will ooze out in the process.
