Hello All! I am currently in process of building a pool and stumbled upon this awesome forum full of information. I am handling the project myself with the help of a friend who does the plumbing for a pool company. I chose to do it myself and I found that I can get much more pool for the money. I can certainly use some advice as far as equipment choices as well as tile choices. Here is the specs on what I am building. The pool is rectangular and the size is 37ft x 15ft with a raised spa on the far long side and a sun shelf on the closest long side. It will be shallow on each end and deep in the middle. I am focusing more on function than appeal which is why I chose this design over a free form pool. I have 2 daughters and one on the way so I want the pool to be more conducive to sports like volleyball and laps. It will be salt water with automation of the equipment. It will be heated by a natural gas heater as well. I live in central florida but it does get too chilly to swim in the winter months. I am planning on pebbletech and I am aiming for a refreshing medium blue hue to the water. So far I am leaning towards Hayward equipment under the advice of my friend. I am open to opinions at this time as I am close to starting. I was able to get all my permits and notice of commencement. The sod is getting stripped tomorrow and then the pool form will be put up. Then the dig!! We are excited yet a little anxious about making the right choices. The local pool companies quoted me the same for a pool half the size and 1 of them kept trying to talk me out of a spa. Anyway, I look forward to participating and I will post progress pics as well as notes so that anyone looking to take on the project themselves will know what to expect. View attachment 67346

Welcome to TFP!

They pool looks great!! I think its fairly safe to say most of the big brands are comparable, although some folks have favorites. I've been very happy with my Hayward equipment just as others are pleased with Pentair. One thing I think *is* important is if you desire automation and being able to control features from your PDA or phone its best to keep all the equipment in the same brand line for ease of it "talking to each other" if you know what I mean?

Check to see if the brand you use for equipment provides a better/longer warranty when you buy 3 or more pieces at once. In the past some have, so worth knowing.

Please keep us updated on your progress with lots of photos. We LOVE us some pics!
