Where is the water he came from? I would think you would not have that problem the way your yard is set up! Yeah a quick glance could save a heart attack!
There is a pond down the hill on the right side of our house. Oddly enough we tracked him with our security camera coming from the front yard to the beach entry and into the pool. He swam in the pool for a couple of hours before my husband found him and took him back to the pond.
We have turtles every once in a while climb up from a usually dry creek bed down at the very far end of our yard. Large one, but not that snapping type. Skippy carries them back to the forested area they came and hope they stay.
After finding live snakes in the pool before I *always* do a livestock reconnaissance mission around the pool before *I* get in.
