Start Up Query

Hi, our year old in-ground concrete pool has been empty for 6 weeks while the builder repaired some tile issues and we're ready to refill.

I've read the plaster start up instructions in pool school, but that seems to concentrate on new pools.

Is the start up any different for older pools?

Great, so is there any particular order to add chemicals or do I need to wait before adding salt?

My plan was to fill, immediately dump chlorine and cya, wait a few days and dump salt, wait a few more days and do a slam. Then check all levels and adjust as per normal.

Why do a SLAM?

What you need to add depends on your test results ;)
You know you will need to add CYA and get and maintain FC in it from the start.

For new plaster the recommendation is to wait 30 days. If there is no need for you to wait, you could add salt right away too.

I agree. Salt to lowest level, CYA to lowest level. Balance Ph. Bleach to a good level then adjust as necessary until SWG can keep up.
