So, I've been using Calhypo (Leslies Power Powder Plus) and it seems to work fine, but it's pricey. WOuld liquid chlorine have the same effect? Still 1 time a week for adding chlorine? Any down sides of using liquid chlorine as opposed to the granular Cal Hypo? Thanks!

You do know Cal Hypo adds calcium to your water? That only can be removed by draining your water. Are you testing for CH?

Chlorine added DAILY is required to maintain a safe, sanitary, pool. You can use liquid chlorine or a SWCG with minimal additional affects.

The only downside to liquid bleach is carrying heavy jugs back and forth. All it leaves behind is some salt. Cal-hypo leaves Calcium and salt. And you probably already have plenty of Calcium in your fill water. I'd bet on it.

You're at risk of developing Calcium Scale, which is grow-your-own sandpaper on the pool walls. While it does giove great traction, it also gives road rash to any elbows and knees that brush against it.
