Hello TFP! Built a new pool last summer and opened it end of August. Overall dimensions are 20' x 40' semi-rectangle, with cutouts to fit the lot and a Baja step. The pool contractor said it's about 17,000 gallons, but I think it's a bit more. 7' x 7' spa. Salt system. All Hayward.

Hayward C5030 cartridge filter
Hayward Aqua Rite Salt Chorine Generation System
Hayward Tristar variable speed pump (2x, one for filter, one for waterfall)
Hayward 400,000 BTU Gas Heater
Hayward color LED lights
Hayward Navigator pool cleaner

Also did the fire pit and have it pre-wired and gas for the grill I will build next. Not shown is the floating bench around the fire pit, which I build myself.

Most recent chemistry:

FC 1.5
pH 7.4
TA 130
CYA 0
Salt 2700
Temp 74

The salt was low because had a recent overfill due to it being left on. Just added salt tonight and will retest tomorrow.

CYA was zero because pool school forgot to tell me to test for this. Just bought the test kit and confirmed it was needed. Added CYA 12lb today per app and pool company recommendation.

CH hasn't ever been tested. Once again, didn't know I needed to do this until recently. Just ordered new test kit to add this test.

We're in southern California, so we don't close the pool in the winter. We don't use it much then, but the dog loves it even when it's 50 degrees outside.

Generally, the pool has been very easy to care for. I add a little acid every week, brush, and do period maintenance on the filters. Water chemistry tests almost exactly the same every week. We've noticed a bit of scale recently and pool company said to use Scaletec. I was researching it when I found TFP. Thoughts on the use?

Sorry for the large images. I had to use an external image host because I hit my limit on the forum.

*That* is one gorgeous pool!!

As for Scaletec, we don't generally use any unnecessary chemicals but I can't tell you if it will help or not. Keeping your chemistry in line along with your C.S.I. in negative range (found at the bottom of PoolMath) should go a long way to avoid and perhaps help correct the scale.

That you have it already means something is out of whack. Most folks your way do tend to have very hard water along with normal evaporation. Hence CH becomes a challenge to manage.
