Can I add CYA at the same time as baking soda?

I'm working on getting my chemistry balanced in my new 22,000+ gallon pool and just added 8 lbs of baking soda this afternoon.

My CYA is around 20. Can I add more CYA now or do I need to wait to be sure that all of the baking soda has dissolved?

If the pump has been running for 15-30 minutes first, it should be fine.

What you don't want to do is add one chemical then add another immediately after.

Thanks for the information. The pump is still at 45GPM, as recommended by my PB during setup so I assumed the baking soda is long gone. It's been a few hours so I'll add the CYA now.

Why so much baking soda? What is your TA? What are you shooting for?

TA was at 40 yesterday. I'm shooting for around 70.

Remember- if you'r'e going to add CYA, put it in a sock and hang it freely over the edge of the pool in front of a return. Use a stick, or mop handle, or something...just so it doesn't rest on the side of your new plaster. You can squeeze the sock now and then to help speed up the dissolving, it will be white milky fluid but it won't hurt you.

Give it a few days and then test to see if the CYA is where you want it.

It tends to creep up ph levels.

Thanks for the reminder. We're doing a low ph start and I'm at about 7.3. I'll be adding some muriatic tomorrow afternoon if it creeps up more.
