Are these estimates reasonable for Wet Edge Prism Matrix & conversion to LED lights?

Hi, everyone! We are obtaining estimates for a replaster job on our approximately 13 year old pool/spa. I've received 2 estimates so far.....both about the same. The quotes seemed high to me (for a small pool), but having never dealt with this scope of work before, I just don't know what is normal.

446 sq. ft. pool + spa

* Wet Edge Prism Matrix (probably Indigo Blue or Eclipse - both Level 5)

* Installation of 2 new Pentair Colored LED lights (1 in pool & 1 in spa)

Quote 1 - $9,399 for Prism Matrix & $2,268 for lights

Quote 2 - $9,443 for Prism Matrix & $2,400 for lights

Also, quote 1 did offer us 4 different prices, low to high, if we wanted to choose a cheaper level of Prism Matrix color. Quote 2 stated just one price, no matter which Prism Matrix color we chose.

Any advice, feedback you can give us would be very much appreciated!

Thank you!!

How many lights? Are those color changing LEDs?

Will they be completely chipping out the old plaster or just doing a skim coat?

We have 2 lights already, but they are not color changing LED's. So, quotes are for converting them to Pentair Color Changing LED's.

I believe the plan is to just do a skim coat....rough up the current plaster surface enough for the new Wet Edge product to adhere properly.

Well, if you look on Amazon or other pool sites like INYO Pools, an IntelliBrite 5G for a pool light and one for a spa light will run you about ~$900 or so. If you add on the controller to sync the lights, that's another $300. So $1,200 in parts. I guess you have to ask yourself if the act of pulling the new lights and wiring everything up is worth an additional $1,200 (that's you labor cost).

Around here in AZ it is common to have plaster fully chipped out. My understanding is that in TX, it's more common to do a skim coat. Honestly speaking, if I'm going to drop $10k on plaster, I want a full coat of fresh plaster all the way to the gunite shell, no thin skim coat. From a technical/longevity/look standpoint, I don't think there's a huge difference between skim coats and replasters, so I'm just basing it off what I'm willing to pay for. To me, $10k = chip out & new plaster.

Depending on the nature of plaster failure vs appearance - it may be advantages to have both between water & the shell.. a good mechanical bond is all that matters
