mustard algae?

previous owner must have used tabs and the cya level is between 70-90. Is this what I think it is?

Can't keep it blue, cloudy at the bottom, ph 7.6 no Combined Cl, Cl=3-5 all summer TA=90-110
Your signature states "Cl trichlor sticks in a CL200". Is this the same pool from 2013 when you were also using Trichlor?

That looks like plain old green algae to me, and you have it because your FC is too low for your CYA. If your CYA is 70ppm, your FC daily target is 8-10ppm, with a 5ppm safe FC minimum. If your CYA is 90ppm, your daily target is 10-12ppm, with a safe FC minimum of 7ppm. A FC of "3-5" is not going to cut it.

The pool will need a SLAM Process, but you will need a much more accurate CYA measurement as there is a big difference in shock level from a CYA of 70ppm to a CYA of 90ppm.

How are you testing?

Sold that house in April and bought a new home in Massachusetts, with an older pool. Since reading TFP I've only used sticks in NJ when away from home for 1-2 weeks and primarily use only liquid 8.25% Chlorine bleach, baking soda and borax.

1st season problem showed 2500 ppm phosphates now down to 200.

I'll recheck CYA and raise the daily FC, thank you, I knew the shock level raised for high CYA but didnt know it was safe to run the high Cl all the time with the elevated CYA!

New pool is 26500gal vinyl and I just installed 244T hayward sand filter and new 2 hp superpump, waiting for the over the deck kit or enough courage to crack the slab for the pressure side return for a polaris 280.

Daily FC target is not going to eliminate the algae, the pool needs a SLAM. With the CYA that high it will take a truckload of bleach.

How are you getting that CYA result, and how do you test the water?
