Hi you guys!
I have another question about pump motors.
Our pool guys have flaked out on us, so we are trying to finish up this project without them. They were telling us we could replace the old 1-speed motor (which is burned out) with a new 2-speed motor, but use the same pump (just replace the seals). They told us they had a lead on a pump motor they thought would work and gave us the model number on that, but that's the last we heard from them and that was over two weeks ago.
My husband called Leslie's to see about ordering a replacement motor. They guy at Leslie's said we can't replace a 1-speed motor with a 2-speed motor without burning out the pump. So, now we are confused. Who is right -- the flaked-out pool guy, or the guy at Leslie's (who we figure may just be trying to get us to spend more money)???
Here's what we have:
Current (burned-out) motor:
Magnatek Century Centurion 1081 pool pump
Frame x56J
1.0 hp SF 6.4-5.9/11.8
3450 rpm
SP1610-Z-1-BEP
Type CX Form KJM
Part 10 182260-04
Current pump:
Hydramax II manufactured by Hayward for Leslie's - comparable to Hayward Super II SP3000 series
Here's the suggested replacement motor:
A. O. Smith STS1102R - Link: http://www.drillspot.com/products/84200 ... Pump_Motor
Advice would be greatly appreciated. Can we do this? If so, would this motor be a good replacement or can someone suggest a better one for our purposes?
We are somewhat in a rush at this point. The pool guys drained the pool and it's been sitting empty for about 3 weeks now. We are starting to go into panic mode. Figure we need to get it filled ASAP, but need a working pump first.
HELP?!?!??? (Thanks in advance!)
