New pool owner

How did you add the stabilizer? Don't want to start an SLAM until we make sure your CYA levels are where desired, but you can definitely put some bleach in to keep a minimum dose in there. How many gallons did you calculate your pool at?

The stabilizer is in socks. pool is 11700 gallons

Perfect, in front of the skimmer or a return I assume. Crunch those things up from time to time and help that process along, keep the filter running, and once its fully dissolved it'll be time for another CYA test. I think in the interim you could just add enough FC to raise that up to 5 so we can make sure nothing goes south.

You want to bump that PH up just a notch to 7.2 as well. Could also possibly retest and make sure thats really where its at. SLAM will want to start with a PH of 7.2.

Agreed, looks like you are ready to go! Make sure you use the 40 calculation for the Chlorine/CYA chart for SLAM levels, always round up. Get that SLAM started and let us know how its going. If you can take pictures daily looking down at the steps that would be a great way to help determine progress. If all you have is some cloudiness, this could be a fairly short lived SLAM. Make sure you are brushing daily and vacuum as needed as well. Check the the FC fairly frequently at first, the need to check should diminish over time.

I would keep up with the SLAM yeah, there may still be a touch of cloudiness there. You are looking for completely clear water. Once the clarity is there, then you'll need to run a OCLT test and that will determine if the SLAM is over. Looks like you will be out of this pretty quickly either way. The closer you keep that FC to 16 the more effective the SLAM will be, try not to let it dip under that mark.

Looking good, keep it up!

Looking good, almost there sureshot.

You've got one of three conditions met to exit the SLAM:

You are done when:

  • CC is 0.5 or lower;
  • You pass an OCLT (ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less);
  • And the water is clear.

Keep at it until that CC is .5 or under and then it'll be time for the OCLT.

Nice work! Thanks for the pic!
