Any maintenance needed for scuppers?

I have 3 copper bowl scuppers. There is some water that sits in the bottom of them, and obviously the pipes, when not in use. Should I be treating them with anything on a weekly basis since that water is not circulating on a constant basis with the rest of the pool or is running them at least once a week enough?

Most members that have scuppers or waterfalls or anything like that make sure to run them for about 15 or so mins each day for this very reason. Best to have "new" water in them daily during the summer months.
