Hello,

I have a Bestway above ground, it's only 1250G which is fine for my space and situation. The pump and cartridge filter it came with seems to not suck water very hard but the return flow is pretty decent. That said I think upgrading to a stronger filter would improve my mechanical filtering. I was considering the Vevor 3500GPH 16" sand filter and pump combo. The price is nice, and I estimate it would filter my water twice in an hour.

Are there any caveats to this upgrade/modification? Is this overkill? My main issue is that most medium size and tiny size debris does not get removed because I can barely feel any pressure on the intake outlets.

Your filter serves as a storage location for particulate matter collected from the water column. It has nothing to do with water sanitation and very little to do with clarity. Spend your time ensuring your pool is properly balanced.

Thanks for the reply. At first I was like, "the things floating in the water need to be filtered out somehow".. But after spending the day reading on the site I now think the "dust" I see settled at the bottom of the pool when I brush might be some sort of dead/white algae.. But I still feel like the pump that came with this pool is not really moving water much, I do wash the cartridge filter daily and there is a significant flow difference from the moment I clean it to the following day when I go to clean it again. I also now realize that a 3500GPH filter is very much overkill for my pool size. Either way would there be any drawbacks to upgrading to this filter? Would cartridge be considered better for my pool given the size? It seems that the cartridge is a better filter for particulates but also not good for larger pools but this pool is tiny at 1250 gallons.. Thanks again!

I'm trying to "fix" or improve the high return situation. The pool is 3' tall but the return lines are at 1.5' from the floor making it hard to pick up whatever is down there. I don't think I have an option for a vacuum..
