Skimmer install - while pool is empty or nearly full?

Hi everyone,

What is the consensus? We're setting up our first pool, an Intex 12' x 24' x 52" Should we install the wide-mouth skimmer while the pool is empty, just starting to fill, or nearly full?

nearly full........when they put in our liner they waited until the water was just under where the return hold on the wall was before they cut the liner to put in the return and skimmer. The reasoning is that the water will pull on the liner/walls as it fills. If you cut too soon it will not be in the same spot when the water starts going in and up.

I second nearly full, for the same reasoning as Kim. I actually installed mine while the pool was 100% full

Thank you for the responses. I'm thinking of placing the top row of screws above the blue part of the liner, to get maximum water depth. Too risky?

I went below, but several have gone above without any ill effects.

Here's where I put mine

I keep my water at the same depth as I did with the over the wall skimmer, right at the level of the top screws on the sides or right at the bottom of the first full blue square.
