Getting plans finalized for deck around our above ground pool. Took samples of Trex home because liked the idea of low maintenance but when we put them outside on our existing deck for a few hours they were too hot to touch for more than a couple seconds. Not an option. Local lumberyard is not recommending the green treated for the long life we are looking for. This led us to grooved Ipe with hidden fasteners. Does anyone in the Midwest have a deck with Ipe and can share the positives and negatives of living with it? We already know it is a very hard, heavy wood for installation. We are looking for answers more about whether it is too hot to walk on (we have full sun all day), what steps do you take to oil it, or if you chose not to oil it--are you happy with that decision?
