Case in point. CA now has a glut of power that is grounded out between about 11am and 2pm or so due to solar power coming on line. I'm a contributor to this myself, actually. I get "paid" (in the form of KWh's banked) for this power even though it isn't being used. On top of this, my utility gives a billing credit of $5/month for not running pool pumps between noon and 10pm. I talked about this with the guy that handles the rebates I've made "friends" with. He acknowledged it but said that getting the time for the credit changed was like pushing a boulder up hill and this credit was envisioned long before solar came along. Now I contribute even more to the problem with my VS pump, at least between 11am and noon.
