First Time Closing Pool???

I've read the pool school article for closing inground pool but still have a couple of questions.
The article here states to SLAM pool a few days before closing and then let the chlorine drop to half the SLAM level to add Polyquat then cover.
Is Polyquat absolutely necessary?
If I decide not to use Polyquat what chlorine level should I cover the pool at?
Do I need to use pool antifreeze if the lines are completely blown out or is this just insurance in case water does get back in them?
I've read some conflicting information on the web and felt this would be the best place to get the right answers.
Thanks in advance for every ones help.

No, polyquat isn't absolutely necessary. (I do use it after taking pool to shock level and then after 24-48 hours, I bring FC back up to shock level. Polyquat is less effective that way, but FC is more important, IMHO).

For sure, if you don't add polyquat, raise your FC to shock level for your CYA before closing.

As for anti-freeze, better safe than sorry...
