replace aerator

I attempted to replace the side aerator but from being so brittle it broke apart and now the wrench doesn't have anything to hold onto. I've tried using a needle nose plier inside but it doesn't catch onto the sides. I'm thinking of sticking a screwdriver inside the hole and breaking apart...
