Pool Cleaners You Can Leave in 24/7/

Seems like a good choice & great balance of $/performance! I also have a suction cleaner, (PB provided) Navigator XL. After three-years of hard-use (24/7), it required only A-Frame bearing replacement. As preventative measure; a complete A-frame & turbine replacement had that sucker back in...

Merry Xmas all!! Pool cleaner question

I have the same suction-cleaner. Stays in the pool and removed only when swimming and during SLAM. I've had only one minor-maintenance issue in 3 years (A-Frame bearings). It's a work-horse; IMO the best bang for the $. FWIW-My Navigator saga er learning-curve :cool...

    Hayward Navigator Problems-Solved

Thought I'd give an update on the ole Navigator XL. Last month, after three-years of hard-use, one of the A-Frame bearings locked up. A close inspection revealed a slight indention/abrasion on the rubber surface. It was enough to occasionally catch. My guess is the bearing wore enough to...

Rocks In Pool! Jamming Up Hayward Navigator

I also have the navigator. Once I learned settings for my pool, it works flawlessly. My issue is also dog hair, rocks and acorns (oak tree). Most of the issues can be overcome by increasing vacuum pressure; crank that sucker up (at high-side or just beyond on the gauge). It'll suck in just...

pool cleaners - do you remove when you shock or when people swim?

I remove the cleaner during shock unless it's needed for debris (for short periods) and definitely during swim-time (our dog thinks its a water toy). Impressive! Wish I could say the same, but on my part it's totally not from a lack of understanding...just plain forgetful & well...a bit lazy.

    Hayward Navigator Problems-Solved

I had no choice in acquiring my Hayward Navigator XL suction cleaner. It was PB provided; both he and I did a thorough job of bashing its performance (much like many on TFP). We certainly were not FANs! So, after about 18months of use (some of it harder than necessary:rolleyes: ), I figured I...

    Hayward Navigator driving me crazy

Before I went further or trashed it, I would consider this for about $20-http://www.webpoolsupply.com/hayward-navigator-pro-poolvac-xl-pool-vac-classic-gear-box-assembly-axv408p/

    Hayward Navigator driving me crazy

That's odd! I've never had to replace the gearbox-bearings but, a year or so ago, I did open it up (just for a look-see :)) and noticed positioning of a small drive gear was crucial; not held in place by any other components when replacing the housing. I used a small amount of silicone lube to...

    Hayward Navigator driving me crazy

I'll have to agree with dj_pool! Check suction pressure. My XL came with an L-Shaped Hayward type suction gauge (simple spring type). Adjust the pool/suction valves until the spring-gauge reads above mid to max; mine is just not happy at mid suction or below (hung up too much). Now after...

    Hayward Navigator opinions?

Also, to keep the trash from the pump-strainer, I recommend the in-line leaf strainer. http://www.bestbuypoolsupply.com/media/W560.jpg

    Hayward Navigator opinions?

I have the Navigator Pro XL. I was initially not a fan, but going through my learning curve and lets say a unit Break-in period, I'm pleasantly surprised with the performance; I'll give it a 7 of 10. Using original internal parts/flaps since December 2012 with no issues since. I've found...

Why didn't I switch ages ago! Zodiac MX8 content

Great thread and excellent posts. I was interested in switching to the MX8 but feel my Hayward Nav is providing an equal amount of fun  For the price and ease of cleaning (1 screw) I'm content with it.

Newbie - looking for cleaner advice

I was not a fan of my PB provided suction cleaner (Navigator-Pro XL). Going through growing pains on how to use it during our SE Texas mast year-2012 (thousands of acorns) and sand residue from a new build caused more clogs than I could handle...

    Navigator doesn' move

Well, if thats the case, reduce vacuum pressure and see if it helps. Not trying to be a smarta*&, but i dont think theres much else left and I dont think new-flaps will help this issue. *Edited, noticed you changed wings already.

    Hayward Navigator goes and stops

I'm not sure exactly which model you have (I have the Navigator Pro), but maybe the design's are similar (Mine used to stop / clog with the slightest bit of sand). I suggest you increase vacuum pressure (suction). You may have to restrict some from the skimmer and/or main drains to accomplish...

    Hayward Navigator Problems-Solved

Re: Hayward Navigator Problems Well, after a few months of...i'll call it break-in, the Navigator seems to have improved. Might have been the anger-fueled tosses across the yard (my temper-tantrums), but more than likely, it was the A-Frame bearings loosening-up (allowing water to rinse the...

    Navigator doesn' move

hmm..I own a newer model Navigator, but I'm not a fan of it at all. They suck! Could be more than a few things including proper re-install of the parts. But, the main things are 1) proper suction (clear restrictions), 2)sand in the a-frame bearings (new bearings are funny) 3) gearbox (if you...

Help selecting the Suction Pool cleaner

yep, i missed that! sorry rg7174. At this point I'd be happy with a cleaner that didn't jam daily. Maybe the Polaris design is the best way to go for steps, those things seem to perform tricks and are good at climbing.

Help selecting the Suction Pool cleaner

I can tell you from experience to stay away from the Hayward Navigator 925ADC. I'm replacing this PB provided plastic-anchor very soon  Hayward Technical support finally told me the unit just is not designed for cleaning silt & sand and also is not good with leaves, pine needles and or...

    Hayward Navigator Problems-Solved

    Hayward Navigator Problems-Solved

Hello, My new Hayward Navigator pool cleaner (PB provided) cleans really well when it’s running, but is driving me crazy with how often the thing stops. The slightest bit of debris clogs the impeller. I can deal with this (seasonal acorns and leaves). But, what’s really upsetting me is how...
