    Manual pool vacuum recommendations

I got a similar-looking pro version when the freebie that came with the pool started falling apart. It's worked great for five or six years now. I don't have a cleaner--I prefer the old way. Store it out of the sun and indoors in winter. I was tempted by this 24" puppy below, but at $235 it was...

    Vacuum hose question

That would be a neat trick. I assume it could only happen if the suction were completely blocked through the hose and the cuff collapsed and then got pulled in. I guess it could happen if you were vacuuming a ton of crud, but I always leaf rake the nasty stuff out when there is any and I know...

    Vacuum hose question

My current skimmer has a 2" hole and the inlet is structured with a recessed lip so that you can just stick a 1 1/2" inch cuff into the hole and the vacuum creates a good seal--no adapter needed. You might try it that way. I've been vacuuming through a skimmer since 1962 and never used a cover...

    Simple, manual vacuum (non-robot) suggestions

I have been plugging straight into the skimmer hole with no plate since 1964 (when we retrofitted a skimmer into our 1946 pool). I don't think they even made skimmer plates in those days--the skimmer itself was cast aluminum. We had to thread an adapter nipple into the bottom to connect the...

    Plaster Vacuum - Newbie Question

If you have two skimmers, and you are plugging the hose into one, you will need to shut off the other either by a valve at the pad--the usual way--or by putting a plug in the hole in the bottom. Otherwise, the filter will mainly draw from the one without the hose. Also, if you have a line to a...

    Too Much Vacuum Suction

I'd check your vac head. Do all the wheels turn freely? If you put it on a flat surface (like a table), does it roll freely? You should have a clearance between the plastic and the table--enough that you can see light out the other side. Sometimes the wheels/axles break. They may or may not be...

    suction on pool vac?

I have always closed all other drains. I have been doing this since I was 10 (I am 56 now) because my old man taught me that way. As long as your vac head rolls freely and you have a decent flow out the return (or waste pipe, if going to waste), you are fine, IMHO.

Keeping the vacum Head on the telescopic Pole

You might also verify your vac head. Possibly you could have the wrong type for your pool or just a too small or really cheap model. Heads should move across the bottom freely despite the suction holding it down. See that all the rollers turn freely. Some types adjust the height of the roller by...
