I could never get aeration to work to get my TA down prior to PH rising and requiring more acid. What I do now when it's needed is add the acid ahead of rain. Rain is the supreme aerator. And it's free :)

Perfect, that's what I wanted to hear. I think I'll adjust my TA up to 80 to give me more of a buffer then drop PH to 6.8. We aren't supposed to get any more rain for a few days, but if we do this will give me some room without crashing TA if it does. Rain is a great aerator. Thanks.

Using the pool calculator, for a CYA of 20ppm, it recommends a range of 2-5ppm of FC. Does that imply that 20ppm CYA can protect 5ppm FC from UV degradation? Say those levels are in a pool in full sun in a perfect world, no organics or swimming activity, would you expect to still have 5ppm FC...

When I added salt to my pool I dumped it all in the skimmer. Dissolves very quickly. I targeted 1800 ppm and couldn't taste it, but the water feel is fantastic.

I have found in my pool with high TA fill water, a hefty amount of aeration is required to do the job, which is often best provided by a good rainfall :)

Salt made my water feel great, borates took it to a whole... 'nuther.... level... :)

I've got borates now, and will be gone for about 5-6 days in August. I had planned to shock before we left, then cross my fingers and hope for the best. Your post gives me hope :)
