    human PH

You actually can test urine pH using the pool pH kit, although I haven't heard of anyone doing it. The process is the same.

    human PH

Just FYI , the normal "body" pH is between 7.35 and 7.45 and is measured using a test called an arterial blood gas (ABG).

AA treatment this fall or wait till next spring?

What part of the country are you in? If you are in an area where you can go without having to close your pool, you may benefit by doing the treatment then. Because cold weather decreases your chances of dealing with a huge algae bloom when letting your FC go to zero (required for an ascorbic...

    cal hypo pucks?

Welcome to TFP! 1.) You should not use the feeder for anything other than trichlor really. Mixing chemicals, even when only a residue exists, can result in bad things happening. You can use calcium hypochlorite tablets (in a floater) though as long as you are prepared to change out water...

Chlorinator with Chlorine Tabs & Cal Hypo Shock? Dangerous?

Re: Chlorinator with Chlorine Tabs & Cal Hypo Shock? Dangero No. You can add cal-hypo to the pool water while using tablets in the feeder. Just don't add cal-hypo into the feeder with the tablets together.

    Still learning about chems FC/CYA

Because the SWCG is constantly adding to your FC. Bleach, which is added in stages, must be present in enough reserve to still be effective as it is consumed.

Is chlorine in the pool corroding my tools?

The containers for tablets and acid are vented so anything nearby can corrode. I store my acid in a Rubbermaid bench storage box well away from anything metallic. Has to be that way.

Cyclospora - another stomach bug in water (and food)

It is VERY similar to cryptosporidium. In fact, a cryptosporidium smear is what our hospital uses to test for cyclospora.

    Metal Stains or Scaling?

You are probably correct. We live in an area where scrutinizing CH levels is important. We have hot summers with a lot of evaporation and subsequent water replacement. Because of this, it doesn't take long for CH to rise and start depositing itself on surfaces. We don't have it as bad as the...

    Metal Stains or Scaling?

Well, aside from calcium, we have no metals. The CH in our fill water can get high though. Especially in the summer. If it feels rough or raised, it's going to be calcium. What is your CH?

    Metal Stains or Scaling?

Scrubbing it only tells you that it is a stain. It doesn't tell you the type of stain. A stain is typically organic (some sort of stain resulting from a life form) or metal. If the chlorine tablet lightens the stain, then chlorine will eventually eliminate it. If the tablet doesn't change...

    Walmart Salt

Any salt that is 99.4% pure or better can be used. Water softener salt is a popular choice here. You just don't want salt with a bunch of additives.

    CO2 vs. Muriatic Acid

Welcome to TFP! This should be an interesting discussion. This forum is really for the homeowner/operator but we do have some commercial folks here using ORP controllers and the like. Let's see what they say.

How low can I keep TA to avoid PH creep up?

50 is kinda low, but you could manage it. Anything less than that might cause wild pH swings and should probably be raised. See what sitting at 50 does for you. You could also add borates to your pool. Borates act as a secondary buffer system and can be very helpful in situations like yours...

Calcium deposits itself on surfaces when there is an excess of it.

What is the cause of my stain

Brown is typically organic staining such as tannin staining from leaves or, and this is what I am suspecting, it is iron. It's only under that one rock and nowhere else? Try scraping a vitamin C tablet on the stain. If it lightens up, it is iron and you may need to treat for that.

High CYA Red water clear. FILTER SOCKS V STIFF. WHY?

Re: Aerating/oxygenating the pool water The only way to reduce your CYA level is to drain water. Aerating causes pH to rise and is recommended when people are actively trying to lower their TA using acid additions followed by aeration.
