How to clean worm stains from pool plaster?

Thank you all SO much for the ingenious solutions. I’m starting w FC. Will resort to ascorbic acid when the season starts and the water is warm enough. I’m not brave enough to throw on a wet suit this early! [emoji28]

How to clean worm stains from pool plaster?

Thanks Duraleigh. Sorry, yes, my CYA is 50 ppm. My error. Don’’t have a lot of stains, but a few spots that I’’ve noticed. What tabs would you use? Else I’’ll raise my FC to 10 and brush for a few days.

How to clean worm stains from pool plaster?

Thanks JamesW. I generally keep my FC level at around 6-7 ppm. Would it help for me to go higher? Any spec target? My current CYA has gone down to 5.0 ppm so a high FC wouldn’t last very long.

How to clean worm stains from pool plaster?

Unfortunately, like many places, we’ve had significant rain. Has resulted in excess works in pool. Haven’t allowed them to sit for very long on the bottom. Luckily have been able to vacuum, scoop and scrape them from plaster quartz bottom surface though there are a few areas where they’ve left...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Thanks again Jim R. Fortunately my pH has remained at 7.8 from when I last closed the pool last November through the present. I guess that’s a good problem to have as I do remember, early on, when pH fluctuated rather wildly and required constant acid treatments. Hopefully the pool has finally...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Thanks Jim R. I was trying to get down to -0.0, but Pool Math app is suggesting I go: 1.) From FC 5.5 to 8 (I usually target 7) 2.) From TA 80 to 70 (Am already between 70-90) 3.) From CH 325 to 400 (am already between 250-350 range) Wasn’t sure whether I really want to make these TA and CH...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

So I’ve opened IG pool yesterday since it had been sitting idle during the winter. SWG is removed. Am using liquid chlorine while water 60F or below. Here are current readings. They seem within target. Should I be concerned w a CSI of -0.24?

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

So we had unseasonably cold temps here around New Years so I erred in side of caution and closed the pool all while it was about 4F. Was a bit unnerving and, while perhaps I could’ve braved it with the pump running, I opted to play it safe. Now the pool is closed so I assume that will mean I...

Thanks again for responding so quickly. Glad my pH stable at the ideal 7.8. No water features here.

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Thank you, mknauss, for quick response. In the summer I aimed for a pH of 7.8 with the SWCG. Would you suggest I go more for a lower pH of 7.5, during cold season, while using liquid chlorine?

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Am using liquid chlorine over winter (removed SWCG) and the poolmath app. Was trying to target CSI -0.1 as suggested but can’t seem to get there. These readings put me at CSI -0.3. Is that safe? FC 4.5 CC 0 pH 7.8 TA 80 CH 425 CYA 70 Temp 38

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Jim R, First successful pool season has come to a close. Have replaced our SWG with dummy cell and taken readings. pH 7.8 (this was my SWG target) CH 450 (this has been consistent; hasn’t exceeded this level) TA 80 Should I be lowering my pH level closer to 7.5 now that the SWG has been...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Thanks Jim. Yes, I do have the Pentair dummy cell for the off-season, so will swap out the SWG once either the temp drops into range you mentioned or I see similar SWG behavior. I have been running my VSP 24x7 with your schedule and have definitely noticed the salt level is finally more...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Jim R, Approaching what appears to be an early end to our first swim season with new pool. Should I remove the SWG once the water temp gets down to about 50F? Also, have been using your 24/7 pump schedule. Do you still run your same pump schedule year-round? Or could I then revert back to a 12...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

But Pool Math is reporting I'm at -0.06 instead of -0.6. And my readings seem perfect: FC 8.0 CC 0.0 PH 7.8 TA 70 CH 400 (was 350) CYA 70 Salt 3050 ppm

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Glad to report since I stopped touching the pump speed presets in the SL mobile app, the schedule has run non-stop 24/7 without issue. Also have IC60 running at 18% output constant that seems to work well. Occasionally I'll add an entire jug (121 oz) of 10% bleach to the pool either before or...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Jim, after reading your comments about the Egg Timer 12 hr default, I'm convinced I must've clicked on one of the pump run time settings rather than just allowing it to follow the schedule, causing it to turn off after 12 hrs. This time I set the pump schedule and allowed it to kick on per the...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

What is the significance of the 12:01 AM and 12:01 PM? Instead of simply 12:00 AM or 12:00 PM? Also, since mirroring your schedule (except for the waterfall), I've noticed every day my pump turns off in the evening and doesn't come back on. Not necessarily a power outage. Trying to figure out...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Jim, I agree with your logic on the wear and tear of the pump. Would you mind sharing your pump schedule? Do you run at a consistent RPM 24 hrs or ramp up during certain hours of the day at a higher RPM? Thanks again!

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Jim R, think I may move to your method of running VSP 24x7 at a lower RPM with the SWG to consistently keep the FC up around 7.0+. Currently, am running VSP from 7a-7pm (12 hrs) @ 55% output but it seems to put me at around FC 6.0-6.5 each day at 7pm. CYA is at 70 ppm.

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Thanks Jim. Very helpful. Was so relieved to finally get my CYA up to 70-80 range. Took months given cold water in Jan [emoji51]. Nevertheless I'm debating changing my schedule from 12 hrs to 24 hrs and subscribing to your constant SWG chlorine generation method. So far I've wanted to get to...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Finally got our pool up to the CYA target of 70-75. Have been running the IC60 SWG at 25% output but doesn't quite appear to maintain the FC level of 7.0 am targeting on sunny days. Pump runs from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Water temp 80F on avg. Should I increase my SWG % or my pump runtime? Wasn't...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

With warmer water temp now, have finally gotten my CYA up to 60. Pool Math app recommending 75. Am in home stretch. This has taken considerable effort considering I started in January with 40 degree water [emoji51]. May not seem like much, but, to me, this feels like a landmark event!

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Understood. We opened the pool in January, so it's been a matter of CYA powder not dissolving in cold water. Regardless have still kept a sock in each skimmer basket in hopes of getting CYA eventually. Now that water is getting up above 70F, am hoping CYA will start to dissolve a bit more...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

2 things: - Lately I've been running my IC60 SWG at 35% to not fall below FC 5.0. Still working on getting my CYA up. It's only about 30 ppm so far. Is 35% running it too hard? - pool water finally hit about 70 deg. Air temps should be high 70s low 80s this week. Would love for kids to swim...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Typically kept my FC level consistently at 4.0 with Pool Math. Losing 0.5-1.0 per day during these Spring months since it's not yet as hot with full sun. I'm raising my CYA for first time from 0 on way to 70ish. Am at CYA 30 now. Tested FC at 3.5 ppm yesterday at 6:00 PM. Ran 1200 RPM from...

Miles' Pool Care - PH and CYA

Thanks again Jim. I typically run 4.0-4.5 ppm FC as I've been using Pool Math with liquid chlorine. And lose between between 0.5-2.0 ppm per day right now with variations in air temp and sun. I will now try to target 5-7 ppm and see what I can come up with. Do you chlorinate 24x7 or overnight...
