There's a dead animal in my pool

Got 3 chipmunks so far this year. I would recommend checking the skimmer more than once a week though.

    loop loc safety cover repair

Not sure this is in the right forum but here goes. I have a 12 year old loop loc safety cover and some of the stitching is coming out of the straps so they are no longer attached to the cover in spots. There is also about a dime sized hole in one spot. I would like to get this repaired and am...

How much chlorine do you add each day?

My CYA is 60 and I average about 60oz of 12.5% a day. In my pool that is about 2.5 FC.

What value do YOU keep your FC level at?

My CYA is about 40, I target FC at 7 every evening and have never seen it below 4.

    So far so good!

If this chlorinator is anything like mine you would have to cut the plastic cartridge open in order to remove a puck.

New pool, good water test, do I really need to shock?

The recommendation for CYA is 30-50 for non-salt water pools which it appears is what you have. With that said and the lack in faith of pool store CYA testing accuracy I would not add any chlorine but bleach until you do your own CYA test and verify what it really is. Also, the only way to...

    Trying to convince others...Its tough

As you have discovered the skimmer is useless when the water level is higher than the opening. 1/2 to 2/3 of the skimmer opening is good for me.

    So far so good!

Think of a plastic housing full of small pucks, like 3/4" dia x 1/4" thick. I had one in my pool, I believe it was swimway?

    How many is too many?

My pool is 11 years old, original liner, never have had any leaks. Does it look new, no, it has faded and has some staining up near the coping but still holds water and doesn't look terrible. Part of the liners life span depends on how you want it to look. I also do not have a liner on my...

    Test and algae help

The smell is because the chlorine is oxidizing something in the water. A pool with no organics in the water (properly balanced) won't give off any odor.

Pool water just seems to lack luster.....

You should be able to test the pool volume theory by dosing based on the volume you believe to be accurate and then test 45 minutes or so later and verify that the number is what you expected. If it is low then you may have more water in your pool then you thought.

    Automatic pool cleaner

I have a pressure side sweep and I run it a couple of hours every other day, sometimes longer or more often depending on conditions. jblizzle's response is really correct, I am OCD so you may not find it not necessary to run it as often as I do.

    Ph Preference

My PH likes to hang out in the 7.6-7.7 range with a TA of 80. If I lower it to 7.4 or so it just drifts back to the 7.6-7.7 range so I leave it there. Pool looks great and no burning of the eyes so I'm good with it.

    Slippery Liner Steps

My bad. I was describing the conditions that indicate no organics.

    Slippery Liner Steps

There are basically three things that will give you a pretty good idea of whether or not there are any organics in the pool and it is all explained in pool school. 1. CC less than .5 2. Pool is clear 3. Do not lose chlorine overnight

    Slippery Liner Steps

Please don't take this the wrong way but you are basing no Algae and good numbers on a pool store test which about everyone on here will question. What are the numbers? I have a vinyl pool but the steps are not covered with the liner. My liner is not slippery at all so I find it hard to...

    Backwash Sight Glass question

Yes, when you backwash or dump to waste the water should be coming out of the hose. The whole point of backwashing is to remove the dirt that has collected in the filter from the system.

    Concerned of bleach being consumed

I have about the same size pool with CYA about 45. I target FC at 8 and lose about 2.5ppm a day. I add about 60oz of 12.5% on most days unless it is cloudy and I use less.

    Pool Opening Chemestry Question

CYA can take up to a week or so to register once added. Don't add anymore until a week has gone by after your last addition, then check and go from there. To limit the FC level you have to maintain during the slam process you are better off having a lower CYA level.

How much chlorine do you put in daily?

I lose about 2.5-3ppm and add 60-72 oz/day depending on sun and temp.

Why is BBB not taught by builders?

My builder was affiliated with a local pool store and recommended using bioguard products, which is what the pool store sold. Pretty obvious why they didn't tell me about BBB.

    Need to Raise CYA

Pool looks great, opened clear and still had FC of about 1.
