    Walmart bleach now 4%

I'm in the same general area as 257WbyMag, but all the way across (actually down :P ) the big county; about 40 or 50 miles. Our Walley brand is still 6%, purchased less than a week ago. BTW.... I hate those glued on cap liners but the jugs are thinner plastic and easier to squash so less...

OK I guess I am offensive French, but I need bromine info?

I found TFP last year and have switched to the BBB method. Prior to that I used ionization and far too little chlorine to keep my pool properly sanitized. In addition the ionization caused copper staining in my plaster pool. This was due partly because I didn't know how to keep the water...

    New Pool Owners

You are certainly on the right track. :goodjob: ALWAYS ADD ACID TO WATER - NOT water to acid. I like to dilute the MA before pouring it in front of return. That stuff sinks like lead as it is so much heavier than water. I use a 3 or so gallon, plastic bucket, filled about 2/3 with pool water...

Newbie here - Yes I need some help

It is very difficult to maintian the pool water perfecty enough using ionizers without eventually having copper stains deposited on pool surfaces. Virtually all of the TFP members on the board, who used ionizers, such as Nature 2, for any length of time, eventually had pools that developed...

Why is my pressure so low?

I'm using Aqua Pearl, similar to DE but without the silica, in my big Quad filter, 80 sq ft. It is backwashing out better than cellulose did. When I backwash and run pump on the usual, 19-20 gpm, which is pretty low flow, after backwashing the psi is 3-5. When I take filter apart and clean, it...

    Hit With Muriatic Acid Fumes

Two Major MA Boo-Boos: (I'm very comfortable using MA and I've acid washed my pool at least 6 times over 24 years.) I once left an MA 2 bottle carton in the cargo area of my new car for about a week. It wasn't summer. I never smelled any fumes but I do always have fresh air coming in the car...

    rusted bobby pin print

The Estered ones are labeled that, Ester C, and mention the coating on the label. Our Vet recommended them for the dogs, DH looked them up on Internet, and now we take them. I imagine the label will give you a hint. DH buys our Vitamins so I don't spend much time looking at supplement labels...

    rusted bobby pin print

Some of the Vit C tablets are buffered or Estered that lowers acid. I had the same problem and the tablets left a yellow goo/stain on the plaster that I had to scrub off. Some will have a very slick coating. The best to use are "regular" Vit C tablets. gg=alice

    pool light lens covers

Before putting in a color changing LED bulb (replacement bulb only into old light) I tried to use the covers but the Polaris 280 kept knocking them off and if I didn't rescue them in time the Polaris would drag them around the pool scratching them up and sometimes even chipping off the edges...

    Safely adding bleach

I guess I'm overly cautious. I walk around the pool and pour pretty evenly into the streams of each of four returns (one return has a small fountain, one has a Pool Skim, and two others are eyeballs) bending down and "floating" the bottle. I usually leave a little to put at the end of pool, with...

Just bought a house with a pool, need help

Welcome to TFP. Just want to give you a word of encouragement. POP (pool owner patience) goes a long way to help one get through pool issues. I had a situation over the winter, as I was treating the pool for slow release of calcium scale. When I got my new pump and big filter in I...

First Time Pool Owner - Pressure or Suction Pool Sweep?

I agree too.. If you have the booster pump go for it. I used a Polaris 280 for many, many, many years. And just about everybody I know has one and loves them. I love mine too. As far as I know the Polaris 280 is the most used and tested, sturdy and hardly any parts that can't be owner replaced...

    "Pool Store" Shock Question.....

Look at the label on any chlorine product you purchase to make sure it does not have copper in it. Copper can cause staining, especially if the TA/CH/pH are not carefully managed. Most of the HTH sanitizing products, now days, contain copper. That is the brand commonly found at Walley's and HD...

    Swimmers Ear

DH has on and off bouts and he rarely gets water in his ears. He says the itching is what drives him the craziest. He orders prescription drops at the drugstore. The tiny bottle runs around $70 but at least there is no doctor's office visit cost. Thank goodness the bottle lasts a long time and...

First Time Pool Owner - Pressure or Suction Pool Sweep?

Welcome to TFP. A huge part of the "best" type of cleaner has to do with what type debris and how much of it you get in the pool. We have extreme amounts of microscopic "cementous" dust going into our pool year round. The silt is, also, partially the extremely fine stuff. I have all...

Fairly new pool owner looking for the easy way

Does you pool get a lot of sun? I'm just south of Dallas and my pool gets a good deal of our Texas sizzling sun. My CYA is now between 40-50 but it seems to me that chlorine additions are much more predictable if I keep it 50-60. I purchased 4 lbs yesterday and will start adding, via stocking...

    Swimmers Ear

All of these suggestions are good and I've used all of them. The main thing is to do something after after water exposure. I, too, have been plagued most of my life with ear aches. My mother always had to use cotton in her ears when showering. I inherited her ears I think. When I need to get...

How to keep PH from constantly rising....

I'm looking into putting together a home made acid injection system, at very low cost. My main issue will be the pumping station is below grade, "flooded", and the filter is sitting, still below grade, but about 3 feet above the pump. I'm going to let the experts guide me on this and start a new...

    Doggie Poop Accident - HELP!

 WARNING  What I want to know is how many people "surgically" scrub their bottoms before going into a pool or spa? And how many people really get their bottoms "that" clean with a quick shower especially if they don't have a hand held shower to thoroughly rinse. (Bacteria grow on...

How often do you add bleach/chlorine to your pool?

I answered "more" because I average out a little more than three times a week. I typically add one 182 oz jug 6% every other day. If I go longer it gets down a little below the lower end of my target range (I always test when I get off schedule) which then requires addition of more than "usual"...

Can I swim while the filter pump is running?

That's great info. I have a couple of 3' extension cords, with a multi plug-in on the end, with GFI on them, and several little GFI bricks that plug directly in and then a regular extension cord can be plugged in. Both kinds very inexpensive and come in handy when there is any question about GFI...

Can I swim while the filter pump is running?

The GFI is a fabulous invention. On more than one occasion I have had an extension cord (using electric powered yard tools), where two cords are joined by plug (hint - tie them together to keep from coming apart), scoot or drop into the pool ........ instant GFI off. Love it. :-D We have one in...

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Re: Can I maintain FC level with bleach? I would suggest as the very first thing to get a good test kit to determine if you need to shock your pool first. Of course with the blazing sun and too little CYA to protect your FC you will be losing a lot of, if not all of your FC daily. Especially...

Bleach leaves to much salt in the pool?

Re: Can I maintain FC level with bleach? In Texas with full sun on pool about 7 hrs/day; partial for about 2-4 more. I like to keep my CYA between 50-60. Makes bleach additions more predictable. I add 182 oz 6% every two days and only test for FC once or twice a week. If the bather load...
