    Polaris 280 and sand

I had a similar problem, when my polaris wasn't working (Our pool backs up to a middle school track, lots of dust gets kicked around.) If it is an ongoing problem, then I would see what people say about the silt bag. Otherwise, I found that a good vacuuming with a skimmer sock in my leaf...

    Another "pool store" story

Aren't you glad that you are armed with correct information about your pool's chemistry? After getting pool-stored one too many times, I found this site last year and stopped going to Leslie's. I found a nice mom and pop pool store for liquid chlorine, and the times when I need Muriatic Acid...

My algae odyssey - do I sound bitter?

You sound understandably frustrated. It is too bad that you found this site so late, you may have had an opportunity to enjoy your pool before you move. I went through an extended algae battle earlier this season (and there is a thread which documents the progress). It took a lot of bleach...

Please help us with our cloudy water!

I had to run my cloudy blue pool in the shock range with the filter running 24/7 for it to clear.

    How to vacuum?

We purchased a leaf cannister and vacuumed again this morning. No problems whatsoever. Picked up a lot of sand but there is a lot more to get. I may vacuum again this evening when everything has had a chance to settle.

Pressure Problems and have a question.

The only decrease in pressure I noticed was from the skimmer basket. However, when I returned from the park, it was back to normal - very tight against the basket. So I'm thinking everything is fine now. I got a leaf cannister for the vacuum so we shouldn't encounter this problem again.

Pressure Problems and have a question.

Do you have a pressure gauge on the filter? If so, what does it read? 18. This is pretty normal for a clean cartridge for us. Do you have a clear lid so you can see into the pump strainer basket? Is the basket in place? Yes. It is in place, and clean. Are your skimmer baskets in place when...

Pressure Problems and have a question.

We snaked the pipes and didn't get anything dislodged. The pump is still taking in water, I can see debris moving into the filter. I can tell the pressure is still lower because the skimmer sock isn't sucking tightly into the skimmer basket. So, any suggestions as to how to get to the clog?

Pressure Problems and have a question.

Ok. So I vacuumed this morning for the first time. I thought I had picked up the big items off of the pool floor, which I can't see. I was wrong. The vacuum picked up a rock and a small pine cone which was caught in the second basket by the pump. It must have clogged one of the pipes too...

    How to vacuum?

Thank you for your helpful suggestions. I really can't bring myself to dive into the pool, but I will use a leaf bagger and pick up as much as I can before I start.

    How to vacuum?

That is a good idea. If your flaky 15 yo cousin can do it, I bet my 16 yo stepson can do it too. Would you be concerned about the amount of debris on the bottom of the pool? I thought the Polaris was taking care of it, because it stopped picking up a ton of leaves, but when I...

    How to vacuum?

After reading here and at PoolForum, we purchased a vacuum and hose. We have a cartridge filter system in our pool. The salesman at Leslie's said to be careful with vacuuming because there is a possibility of clogging our pipes if there is too much debris on the bottom of the pool. Also, he...

    CYA question

I have the Walmart kit which is fine for now. The major complaints that I have is that you will only be able to perform 2 CYA tests with it and that I can only measure FC up to 5 unless you dilute the sample. CYA stands for cyanuric acid. It is found in stabilized chlorine and is also sold as...
