    Delay pool opening?

You should not delay opening your pool. A SWG is the best unless you have a reason you can't use one (such as rules against discharge of salt water, pool made from corrosion prone materials, etc). For bleach, you should call Hydrite, a Wisconsin bleach manufacturer, and ask for one of their...

    Fastest way to heat pool

The change in temperature (delta T) across your heat exhanger will be the greatest if you have higher flow rates of water (fire on one side, water on the other). Remove the eyeball and reduce all restrictions to get the fastest flow through the heater and that will increase the efficiency and...

    Summer pump runtime?

"Historically, the rule of thumb has been to run the pump at least 1 turnover per day. However, that has turned out to be a very poor indicator of actual required pump run time. " The complete turnover rule is obsolete

    Pool Chemistry HELP!!!

It will respond to SLAMMING. It is one of the 3 criteria required to pass the SLAM. You have said that the water is clear: that is 1. CC must return to normal: that is 2. And, OCLT must be normal: that is 3. During the daylight, check for hidden algae on steps, out of the way places...

    Pool Chemistry HELP!!!

It's easier to SLAM with a lower CYA of about 30. But you can do it with the CYA of 80. Just get LOTS of bleach. If your pool looks clear it may be a short SLAM

    Pool Chemistry HELP!!!

Your CYA is higher and that will make it harder to SLAM. Consider a partial water change to drop your CYA. You can SLAM with a CYA that high. It will take a lot of bleach. It's worse in the beginning and then gets better. You may have to add bleach every 2 hours at first. Keep adding...

My chemical list: cyanuric acid (Puri Tech brand on Amazon) $2/pound. 6% bleach (Walmart) $1.77/gal (price differs by area). 20 mule team borax (Walmart) $4.47/65 oz box. Muriac acid (Lowes) $9.98. Baking soda (Walmart) $0.50/lb. Snow Joe Melt calcium chloride pellet (Walmart online)...

    Solar cover

I have a reel which makes solar cover installation and removal a one person task. With borates in the pool pH is stable. During our recent drought, I have not need to add any water to the pool. It seems to keep the pool about 4 degrees hotter on average.

    Solar cover

I leave mine on all the time (until pool stays in 90's). The cover is removed when swimming and then back on again. I haven't had any problems wit CCs, algae growth, or any of my chemistries.

    Pool store terminology?

I buy Walmart 6% cleaning bleach 128 oz for $1.77. It's $2.60 online and $1.77 in the store. Turns out that Walmart charges different prices in different areas. I order the bleach in advance in the store and then pick it up. It's in 3 gallon cases and stacks up nicely. I have already...

    chlorine question

Do not wait for your test kit to add chlorine. You may develop algae before it arrives. Why don't you automatically add 3ppm of bleach per day (as others have said) until your test kit arrives to be safe. I agree with the others. I would not do any adjusting until you have your test kit...

    Pool store terminology?

No pool store here either. I've never had a pool store test my water. Started with TFP and never looked back. I know others that use pool store methods. Every 2 weeks at the store. Some new copper algacide / floc / clarifier / phosphate remover / etc. Not for me. I would buy liquid...

New to pools, pool guy seems to have done nothing for us

The pool store will recommend magic potions that are bad for your pool such as cooper and floc. You do not need these products. You have to go the TFP way or the pool store way. They are not compatible. The TFP way is much cheaper to do and gives you a sparkling clear pool that you may...

Cyanuric Acid ~ Am I Understanding This Correctly???

Gilly, I just posted a graph of my beach requirements in a thread named "Chlorine Requirements". After going through the records to make the graph, it looks like I used 70 gallons of 6% bleach instead of 80. If your pool is 10,000 gallons then that would only be 50 gallons for you. However...

Cyanuric Acid ~ Am I Understanding This Correctly???

You sound like you are getting it. I used 80 gallons of 6% bleach last year in my 14,000 gallon pool. I bought it in stages. This year I bought all my bleach at once by ordering from Walmart and then picking it up. It is too much trouble to go to multiple stores and make multiple trips...

FYI, I used 80 gallons of 6% in 2018. My pool is almost twice as many gallons as yours. I keep a solar cover on mine most of the time. Just to give you an approximate amount.

How often do you really test your water?

For me: FC and pH 1X per week, CYA, TA, and CH once a month, borates twice a year. Whenever there has been significant rain and water drain, CYA, TA, CH, and borates. After a while, I found that the pool was so stable that I didn't have to check daily. Sometimes I do a math calculation...
