How long after adding acid should I wait to test?

Added the 1/2 gallon...pH right at 7.2. TA still high...I assume pH will go up and TA down over a little time and will adjust further then. Wish me luck SLAMming

How long after adding acid should I wait to test?

No borates added, but don’t have ability to test (and we bought house after pool was opened last summer - so we are dealing with (at least some of) the previous owners water.) 31% Ma....I assume calculator is saying we need 1gal + 1qt because our TA is 130.

How long after adding acid should I wait to test?

I am in the process of opening my pool which became overrun with algae over the winter. We have gotten our CYA levels in check (they were too highdue to trusting test strips. Won’t do that again!) Now we are working on pH. And will SLAM once that is where it needs to be. Currently: TA=130...

    Conflicting CYA tests

This is exactly what I did! I figured whatever the “reading” was with no reagents I would subtract from the reading with reagents to get a fair estimate.... I could definitely see the dot with the tube full, so I think the cloudiness of the water is having a negligible impact of the test.

    Conflicting CYA tests

So my question becomes...If I can’t get an accurate CYA reading on the dot test due to already cloudy water...how do I accurately determine my CYA level prior to SLAM-ing?

    Conflicting CYA tests

That was a concern I had - that the cloudiness of the water from the algae was impacting the reading and that CYA was not really as high as the test would make it seem.

    Conflicting CYA tests

We added shock level amounts of dichlor twice while trying to address the algae. We based this decision on the very, very low CYA reading on the test strips we were using while waiting for the Taylor kit to arrive.

    Conflicting CYA tests

Pool isn’t clear. Started opening it about a week ago. Was full of algae. It’s better than it was - we can see the bottom now, but it’s still a mess. Going to get the CYA in range and go from there.

    Conflicting CYA tests

Ok, thank you. The new test kit I have is the Taylor 2006-SALT. The CYA test kit was reading over 100, so I re-did it with 1/2 tap 1/2 pool water. Looks like my CYA is at about 120. I’ll drain some water, refill, and go from there.

    Conflicting CYA tests

We are in the process of opening our pool which was overtaken by algae over the winter. We moved into the house last summer after the pool was open, so this is our first year opening. Last year We had no trouble keeping the pool clean and clear. We have a saltwater system and generally shock...
