Suction side chlorinator using needle valve

True, but I run my pump 24/7 and my daily injection would only be 60 oz, so a very small dribble that should have a really low impact. Also, as pointed out, Mark uses a similar set up for acid injection and hasn't noted any low PH problems. - - - Updated - - - Thanks. I've been through that...

Suction side chlorinator using needle valve

Thanks, but to be clear, the system I was talking about was for sodium hypochlorite injection, not pucks or dissolved di-chlor.

My $25 auto chlorinator DIY project

Actually I wonder if injecting it into the return side might not solve the suspected problem. I suspect return flow would possibly create a slight suction affect but not near what the suction side would. Wouldn't even need to run the line to far into the return. Hmmm...

Suction side chlorinator using needle valve

Ok, thanks. Yeah I tried that one too, no go. I've got the hayward, so I guess I'll try it.

My $25 auto chlorinator DIY project

Took me a few reads but I get exactly what you are saying. That's actually pretty ingenious. Only issue I'm left wondering about is it's about 20' from where the pump will be to the skimmer. Will the drop pump push chlorine this far? I'd also have to get creative for how I can run my vacuum...

rocketo, did you use the hayward needle valve?

My $25 auto chlorinator DIY project

Thanks. All of the chlorine resistant solenoid valves I've found are very expensive. Peristaltic pumps are about half, and the idea discussed in this thread is about $40 for the install, making it very attractive. I had though of setting it up with the line into the suction side of the pump...

Suction side chlorinator using needle valve

Thanks. Bama, I wasn't aware you were using it with a liquidator. I have the valve, I guess I'll experiment with it.

My $25 auto chlorinator DIY project

It seems you 3 all have AG pools. I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out how to make it work with an IG pool. I could inject into the suction side of the pump, but no idea if the suction on the pump would cause an issue or not.

Life expectancy of a stenner pump

Digging through years of old threads looking for info on the hayward needle valve chlorine injection I posted about, I found gobs of info and mostly praise for the Stenner injection pump. I like the concept (and pricing :) ) much better than SWG and think it may be ideal for my and my dad's...

Suction side chlorinator using needle valve

Several years back there was discussion about using a fine needle valve threaded into a container with hose going from it to the drain plug on the suction side of the pump. I think Hayward made the valve that was able to be closed enough to allow adjustment for our use. I bought one, and never...

converting to SWG...what to be aware of?

I suspect the 1-2 ppm of FC with a CYA of 70-80 was the culprit for letting the algae take hold. No idea on when you can start the SWG install.

    Any regrets?

My 21,200 gal IG pool uses 2ppm chlorine daily on average. It costs me $1.50 per day. We have a 5 month season (Mid-may to Mid-October) so roughly 150 days. An oversized SWG for my pool would cost right at $500. Following is a comparison of bleach to chlorine- Year 1- bleach $225 SWG-...

    CompuPool?

Thanks, that's close to 3 years worth of run time for his pool, hopefully with it set lower since oversized it will run even longer.

    CompuPool?

Thanks. Noticed the warranty is 3 years. Is that for the cell too? Assuming the water is balanced how long can one expect the cell to typically last for?

    CompuPool?

I've done more reading, it appears the CompuPool is a respected reliable unit. http://www.backyardpoolsuperstore.com/C ... _3718.html Price isn't bad as well. However it's for an above ground pool up to 20,000 gal. Any reason it wouldn't work just fine on an IG of 11,000 gal? Would this one...

    Hayward salt and swim?

Good points, thanks. It's a bit more than just buying bleach which he won't do. He went back to an in-line trichlor unit and I'm dealing with it's problems now. I figured with a new cell each year it should be trouble free which is what he wants/needs...

    Hayward salt and swim?

Anyone have experience with this new model? Says for pools up to 25000 gal, comes in a 6 month or 1yr cell, replacement cells are about what bleach would cost for a season in my dad's pool, he only needs the 6 month version. $550 to start then $200 each year for a new cell. Sounds like a...

Homemade Acid OR Chlorine Injection System

Ordered it yesterday afternoon, using google checkout it took all of 10 seconds. Painless. With free shipping it said it would show up Friday, but it came today, from Grainger. And it is the NVA with the red thumbwheel. Good call :)

Homemade Acid OR Chlorine Injection System

Has anyone identified the cheapest source for the 1/4" hayward needle valve? Just opened my pool and since it looks like the feedback on this valve has been positive I need to order one. Thanks, and good to read everyone again :)

Anyone using mas985s drip feeder for chlorine successfully?

Thanks, that would be great :) I figured I would somehow mark it for repeatability, but as touchy as the valve I had was to set, it would have been tough.

Anyone using mas985s drip feeder for chlorine successfully?

Thanks for the update. It renewed my enthusiasm :) I'm in no hurry this late in the year, but if it shows, will gladly take it off your hands :) Once you have it set to proper flow, would it be easy to mark to reset it when you have to?

Anyone using mas985s drip feeder for chlorine successfully?

Fantastic. I need 4oz flow per hour. This should work out great :) I'm in no hurry, if the other valve shows up I definitely would like to buy it from you.
