How high is too high for salt level?

Any CYA additions should also be approached cautiously for the same reason. Draining and refilling to lower ppm levels sucks. Not that I have ever done that…😉😩

Salt In Town Water & Troubleshooting Cell

Test strips are notorious for being inaccurate. Seriously doubt tap water high in salt. Get a drop based salt test kit. Probably why swg not working. See TFT test kit link in my signature

First season with SWCG some observations and a question about closing for the season

Good plan on liquid chlorine, probably cheaper than using up SWG cell anyway! 😀

    Conversion Costs/ Potential Benefits

After a couple years or so, (depending on rain, water replacement etc.). Most folks have 600 ppm and up salt level from chlorine additions anyway.

    Switch to SWG?

Little to no difference between salt water pool and other chlorination methods as far as repairs. Unless you drain frequently, non SWG pools build up salts anyway. I can’t think of a reason to avoid SWG except that it works so well some get lackadaisical about testing FC and get burned a bit...

    SWG CYA question

Layman's explanation from what I seem to remember reading in threads. Because the SWG puts out small amounts for a longer period, helps protect chlorine. Particularly during the heat / UV during the middle of the day. Past experience has shown that SWG's fare better with higher CYA. And? See...

Is SWCG a good fit for my pool

Very little difference in corrosion between liquid chlorine pools and salt pools. Pumps don’t care as far as I know. Double rated gallon size is good compromise on swg.

Suggest FC level with a chlorine injector

Non-swg. The injector is still a liquid CL pool.

    Chlorine to Saltwater

Long term cost about the same. You pay upfront for swg and salt. Ongoing cost with liquid CL Once dialed in daily maintenance is easier. Size the swg 2X rated gallons

SWG Size - 28k Gallon Pool in New Jersey

The experts here recommend double the size of your pool, which would be the IC60 or similarly rated. But: We have a 10k pool and a 7k rated SWG. In my case we have been buying 7k SWG's from Walmart when they close out in the fall for $25 to $40. So we supplement the SWG with bleach. Our...

    Is SWG truly carefree?

Walmart puts those on sale end of year. We buy ours for $25 to $45. Ours only last about a year but for that price who cares! We have 10k pool so work it pretty hard.

    Salt level, who to believe?

    FCL - Not Enough

Good to see you are keeping FC in 4 to 6 range now. ? Are you slamming now or was fat finger?

SWG, FC levels, and pool cover

When cover is open for extended periods, UV Ray's burn off your FC. Probably just need to learn 2 settings on swg, one for cover closed and one for open. Or set swg for when closed, then add liquid CL when you open it up, amount would depend on swimmer load, direct sun, time open to sun etc.

    FCL - Not Enough

I would perform an OCLT. May have a bloom starting. Or turn off swg and chlorinated manually to see if is algae or swg not working. Betting on bloom.

    New SWG

Once you have the swg set and tested to maintain CL level, nothing much is different, an occasional salt level check is all. Other than not having to dose CL daily! ?

    Thinking about switching to SWG...

Yes it is reasonable...once you have the swg set to output the right amount for your pool. In other words I wouldn't start it up and go on vacation the next week. ?

Ok i am doing it. Making the switch. All pointers needed PLEASE!!!

Hmmm...switch is $26.49 on Amazon. Besides the pool I can think of several house / barn applications!
