    Question about my aging IC40

Thanks for the reply, Jim! Just to follow up, the SWG appears to be putting out virtually no chlorine at this point as I've watched the FC level drop consistently over the last three days. Also now showing a flashing green CELL light on the IC40. I opened and inspected the unit today and...

    Question about my aging IC40

Is it normal for a SWG to have to work harder in it's twilight? My 4 1/2 year old IC40 is running about 20% higher this year to keep up with the chlorine demand vs. same period last year. TF100 results are very similar year-over-year, and I just did the Pentair usage test which shows I'm in...

Minding my CSI, but still scaling in SWG

Dan, that FC of 9 is admittedly on the high side for me, too. I normally try for something in the 6-7 range (the pool is there now), but with the reduced scaling in the SWG cell after adding Borates, it appears I was now getting a little too much chlorine for what used to be a good SWG %...

Minding my CSI, but still scaling in SWG

So I'm updating this thread because I finally decided to give borates a try, and it seems to be making a big difference! Right on schedule this Spring, as the chlorine demand went up, so did reemergence of the white flakes. This is the third summer since the pool was built, and with a...

Minding my CSI, but still scaling in SWG

That is an interesting theory. I have been running the SWG for 20 hrs/day. Maybe less run time on a higher % would help the scaling? Though one problem I foresee is that I've been in the 'keep the pump running nearly 24/7' camp as a way to promote general pool health & well being. If I...

Minding my CSI, but still scaling in SWG

Appreciate all the info! I'm not ready to go with borates just yet, but will try a lower CSI via more acid for the next month or so and see if that helps the SWG scaling.

Minding my CSI, but still scaling in SWG

That could be, because my scaling in the SWG seems much worse than the pool.

Minding my CSI, but still scaling in SWG

Pat, I've had some slight scaling around the pool, mostly near the skimmers. Which is all the more reason why the SWG scaling seems odd to me. Should I just run an even lower CSI and pH by adding more acid?

Minding my CSI, but still scaling in SWG

I have been battling increased scaling this season (our second summer with a new-build pool) despite my attempts to manage the CSI. This is what the SWG looked like in early Sept after cleaning: ...and this is what I have today: This is pretty representative of where I have been...

IC40 SWG not on during EasyTouch 'Clean' Cycle?

It's all good, Dan! Thanks for your inputs.

IC40 SWG not on during EasyTouch 'Clean' Cycle?

Thanks for sharing your pool schedules, Dan! Some good techniques there that I may replicate. (y)

IC40 SWG not on during EasyTouch 'Clean' Cycle?

Jim, I think you may have nailed my problem exactly! Currently, there are a couple hours of inactivity between my pool and clean cycles. I'll re-arrange the pool and clean cycles and see if that does the trick. Thanks! I do have ScreenLogic on our Mac & iphones, but I still feel like there...

IC40 SWG not on during EasyTouch 'Clean' Cycle?

In my second Spring with our pool, and since the SWG has 'woke up' with the warmer temps, I am noticing it only seems to be operating during the pool's normal 'on' cycle (lower pump flow). For the portion of the day that I have set for 'clean' cycle (higher pump flow), the SWG lights are all...

    SWG Cleaning Interval?

I know this is a popular subject, but hadn't seen many recent threads about it. I've had water in our new-build pool since last December, and I have just completed the second SWG inspection/cleaning. The first one in mid-March showed virtually no buildup on the SWG cells (not surprising since...

My SWG just isn't keeping up

Jim, I upped the SWG to 75% and the FC seems to have stabilized at about 4.5. Thanks again for your help!

My SWG just isn't keeping up

Good info, Jim. Thanks! Is it okay (or even recommended?) to have the pool and SWG on 24/7? I had thought I read last winter that a SWG of around 50% might be a good WAG for summer conditions, and I guess I was worried about overshooting on the chlorine level with the SWG at a very high %...

My SWG just isn't keeping up

Latest TF100 readings for context: As I mentioned in another thread, I'm managing my first-ever Spring transition to warmer temps. As the water temp has approached 80F in the last week, I have been ratcheting up the SWG to it's now current setting of 50% (IC40). The pool is on from 6:00am...
