Crystal Clear Water with little to zero chlorine levels?? Is it safe?

One quick question. How did you add your CYA? If you added it through the skimmer it could have been lost before it dissolved if you backwashed. GC

IC 40 reads low salt; Pentair told me to bring down phosphates?

    SWG bit the dust

It certainly can be permanent if you want it to be. As a matter of fact (this would probably make a good poll), most members here probably add their chlorine manually. You can save over time to get yourself a new SWG, or automator. But manually adding bleach works 100% fine. Other methods are...

    My SWG

What Jason is saying is take a water sample at the pool return and test it. Then take a sample from an area that's distant from the return and test that. If the sample at the return tests higher than the other sample, then your SWG is generating chlorine.

Is this rust/orange looking build up normal after only a week?

You can unplug the copper electrodes. There is no need for it in a properly chlorinated pool, and over time will do more harm than good.

Considering buying and stalling SW system / questions

Well, I am a fan of SWG. But as I tell any of my friends who ask about it, it is NOT A REQUIREMENT!! I just enjoy the convenience. After last summers 16 day vacation, I came back to a crystal clear pool with FC level of 7. I had set my SWG to run 2 hours a day while I was gone. A lot of my...

1600 vs 2650 SWG best choice for 16' Intex above ground?

My filter is the Intex 2650, but it is not a combo. But mine is about 4 years old so perhaps the newer models are combos. I am going to look on the Walmart site to be sure. - - - Updated - - - This one is not a combo. How big is your pool...

1600 vs 2650 SWG best choice for 16' Intex above ground?

Try Walmart.ca. My neighbor purchased a sand filter there last week. Also I agree with the above post - avoid the combo system if possible. Especially if you intend at any point to add a pool heater.

Trying to avoid a green pool- please help

First of all, have you added any water? Your salt level did not drop if you didn't add water. If water evaporated, it would increase your salt density. So you have to be sure of that reading first. That being said, 200 ppm is not much of a change in salt ppm. The tests are not accurate enough to...

    SWG & CYA level

Not sure if this has been cleared up so I'll mention it anyway. You mentioned in an earlier thread that you are losing water to evaporation, and having to replace. It seemed to me in reading that you thought this would lower your CYA level. It doesn't. Replacing water that has been lost to...

Watch out with those salt test strips!

8 bags of salt in a 10,200 gallon pool should raise your salt to about 4000 ppm. Did you have any salt in the pool prior to this? The reason I ask this is because some people add salt even when not using SWG just for the feel of the water.

    Intex 5460

Yes it will. You may have to find adapters to connect to your existing hoses, but no reason you can't use that SWG with your pool. Whether or not it's chlorine output is sufficient for your pool I cannot say. But I am thinking it is. GC

How long do you run your SWG for?

Do you know the chlorine output of that system? Is it adjustable? I mean can you adjust the % output. My first inclination is that it's working properly. Your reading of 10 after reducing to 3 hours, down from 6 hours could be normal.

    Acceptable salts?

Just a quick bump. Setting up pool again for the season. Still wondering about those "patetented resin cleaning additives". Everything seemed to work fine last season, so I may just get the same salt again, unless someone tells me why I should not. Thanks. GC

need a new swg- help with replacement

If you can find an older model, then definitely get that. Also, if you find them, please PM me with a link (or post it here). The new models are capable of adding 12 mg per hour chlorine, and the older models are rated at 24 mg per hour (so your cell wouldn't have to work as long). And as Bama...

new SWG owner here, will i need to suppliment chorine?

Nope. For regular chlorination the SWG can easily handle it on its own in a 17k pool as long as you have CYA added. For a saltwater pool CYA at 70 ppm is ideal.

    Intex SWG Low Salt Error

Re: Intex SWG My pool is 8,000 gallons. My SWG is not one of the fancy expensive ones. It is a Bestway Hydroforce SWG. It supposedly is capable of putting out 24 grams per hour. The older Intex I believe are also capable of 24 grams per hour (of course this all depends on factors such as flow...

Intermittent Code 92 (High Salt) on Intex SWG but salt is OK

Re: Intermittent Code 92 (High Salt) on Intex SWG but salt i Well if your SWG continues to perform properly, then the low flow would more than likely have been the problem. When was the last time you changed your filter? Is your water clear?

So. I buy 6 bags of Windsor System Saver 2 salt and dump them in the pool. As I'm collecting the empty bags I notice this written on the back. "...contains high purity salt with patented resin cleaning additives". Salt dissolved and SWG seems to be working fine. Will these "patented resin...

Krystal Clear SWG keeps reading low salt

Okay. Hard to read a CYA level below 20 - 30. That explains that. I would guess you're around 25 based on your initial measurements and a 50% drain.
