    Suspend, works great. Leaves a residual barrier. May or may not be available for non-professional use in your state.

    I’ll be doing a Jack’s Magic iron scale treatment to remove stains and then a water exchange using the ‘tarp method’. Probably around the middle of March.

    In the off season here a little north of you we cut the pump run time from 8 to 4 hours and run it during the hours it would be most likely to hit any freezing temp, between 1 and 5 AM. The system has a freeze protection function also of course.

    I calculate 3.2 tons (at 100lb/cu ft). Extending the radius out a little around the pool I'd say your 3.8 number is pretty accurate.

    The heat pump will not heat your pool if ambient is below 60F or so. If you are looking to extend the season in that way a HP won't do it. In Mich, I'd go propane. Much easier to heat to the temp you like, and much quicker. You can turn it off and on as needed. Can't really do that with the HP...
