I went ahead and put the skimmer on one inlet and the sprayer piece on the other inlet. Turned pump on and hoped for the best. Seems to be working just fine. Yay!

I did read that about the reason for 2 inlets and safety but also have read that in order for the skimmer to get enough suction you have to eliminate one inlet. Having only one inlet and it having a skimmer attached seems like it would eliminate the risk of entrapment. And not running the pump...
