Give the pool a good shock, the bugs thrive on algae, even low levels. Eliminate algae

We had an Intex for many years and only used it right at start up in case there was some lingering algae from closing and storing. I used only BBB for regular maintenance - perhaps they suggest it if there is an underpowered pump and filter connected to the pool?

The Walmart stuff is ammonia based - not polyquat. I did see polyquat at Kmart one time - surprise and shocked, pleased too - I bought up all three quart bottles. Now they stock the same as Walmart. I only use polyquat at closing to prevent algae while the winter cover is on. For swimming...

You may have to run the backwash/rinse cycle longer or a few more repetitions to clear the sand filter of the dead algae.

What are you using to test your pool?

Not sure but I can tell you that this year is the worst I have ever seen for that. On the flip side, I have never seen our fruit trees with so much fruit, the ornamentals bloomed like mad, etc. Its the climate.

Be careful which of the HTH products you dump in your pool - some of the algaecides include copper or other ingredients that you don't want. Stick with bleach and keep an eye on your ph as well. Stock whatever you may need to bring the PH up or down along with your stock of bleach. For now...
