    Ongoing Nuisance Algae Problem

see mustard algae in pool school. FC at or below Slam levels for your CYA are safe for equipment and for swimming.

FAC at 19.9 and TC at 20.7, green yellow, what happened ?

Correct on not a filter issue. Filters remove particles but do not help kill algae. The reason a proper test kit is recommended is because pool store tests are notoriously inaccurate, as are test strips. Guessing the pool service uses tabs for chlorine? If so, I would bet your cya is much...

    Ongoing Nuisance Algae Problem

Even when FC is at slam levels if you have a hidden colony that doesn't get brushed, you probably won't get a good kill. And what is left isn't enough to trigger a CC level for a few? several days?

    Ongoing Nuisance Algae Problem

What is your cya level? Phosphates don’t matter if you have proper FC level for your cya per chart. Apparently you have some hidden spots, niches, ladder etc that are not completely algae free.

    Signature shows now. 👍

Algae blooming nearly weekly. I can’t afford the chlorine anymore

If your going to drain and change liner I wouldn’t bother clearing up water your going to dump anyway.

    Green pool

Don’t panic on the testing with your own kit. After a few, it becomes easy. And the experts here are very good, donating their time so the only skin they have in the game is helping folks to get a clear pool and keep it that way. No the test kit isn’t cheap up front, but most save way more...

CC stuck at 1 ppm with Slam

Yup, keep slamming until you pass all three criteria. Backing off now is an invitation for algae and having to start all over again. Now is the time for POP. Pool owner patience! 😀

Algae blooming nearly weekly. I can’t afford the chlorine anymore

If your having trouble keeping clear with liquid chlorine, the tabs will be worse due to rising CYA levels.

Algae blooming nearly weekly. I can’t afford the chlorine anymore

Please add your pool info to your signature, helps the experts help you and saves time for both. Check ladders, light niches, etc. for algae also. Most generally if have continual problems either there are hidden spots and/or slams were not quite completed.

    Duration of Mustard SLAM

Hard to tell from pics, but I would swim in it. Probably better sanitation than public pool!

    Duration of Mustard SLAM

Visible algae as in green? Or white stuff? you can swim at or below FC slam levels but you need to be able to see the bottom of the pool.

    i did something really stupid

A cc of 1 isn’t a big concern, particularly when you are fairly certain of the reason. It doesn’t mean you have algae, just that some organic material is being broken down. (Not an expert but that’s the way I interpret cc, don’t know exact terminology. 😉)

SLAMming for 13 days and counting...

Are you backwashing due to pressure rise? A slightly dirty filter that is below 25% rise, filters better.
  16. Msch99

    When to stop SLAMing

Probably the app uses percentage, enter 40 and you should get the correct FC levels.
  17. Msch99

Overnight Chlorine good but get some algae

Backwash when have 25% rise in pressure instead of time frame. Depends on how much filtered out. Pool filters are like air/oil filters for cars, work better after pick up a bit of stuff. Too clean and don’t pick up as much.

    Chlorine loss

Check pool School, but I think you only raise FC to mustard levels after slamming at normal levels. How long since checked cya? Maybe changed? High FC loss usually due to algae, high swim load with sunscreen etc or dosing FC higher than cya will protect.

    SLAM Question

May be the lighting but water looks a bit cloudy to me. The longer you delay a slam the longer it will take to finish. If need one start ASAP. Did you perform a OCLT? I would remove ladder if it has a chance of harboring algae and has places you can’t brush.

    Mustard Algae SLAM

I think you slam at normal levels for a time, then raise later. See pool school on mustard algae…I haven’t read it but quoting what little I remember seeing in a post.

    New build, slimy walls

Speedster much easier and probably, generally more accurate for most of us due to better mixing.

    New build, slimy walls

I prefer the one from tfttestkits. Test Kits Compared - Trouble Free Pool Seems to have a better mix of reagents you will normally need.

    Need to SLAM

At first hard to accept or wrap your head around that an FC at slam level isn’t as harsh as lower FC without any CYA.

Yes. Follow the cya/chlorine chart and slam instructions in pool school.

Green algae, low calcium hardness- should I SLAM?

Follow link in MDs post for proper kits. Don’t do anything but add 5ppm chlorine to hold off algae increase until you get proper test kit. Post your results and these folks will give advice from there! 😀 Dry stabilizer. No pucks until know cya level.

    Persistent algae and cloudiness

Welcome to TFP! You are in the right place. :lovetfp: For starters you need to order your own proper test kit. I use the TF100 with speed stir but the Taylor K-2006C kit is good too. Link to TF100 in my signature. In the mean time: Add 5ppm of liquid chlorine (bleach) to your pool daily...
