    Adding water

Welcome to TFP! In answer to your other thread..... Algae spores are everywhere. Given the ideal environment, they grow at an alarming rate. We keep our pools algae free with common household supplies: sodium hypochlorite, otherwise known as bleach as our chlorinator; muriatic acid to adjust...

    Too much algaecide

Welcome to TFP! I am assuming that it was a pool store that told you to add the algaecide? May I make a suggestion? Get yourself a good test kit. We recommend the TF-100 or Taylor K-2006. Neither are available in your local pool stores, you need to purchase online. Check here for a comparison...

Starting a SLAM after a flood.

Welcome to the best pool care site! You are already miles ahead of the game in having the best test kit! I am assuming that you are doing a LOT of reading in Pool School, so that is another bonus. Post your test results, and we can go from there.

    Cloudy

I'm going to add my two cents here as well. Pool School (link at the top of the page), and a good test kit. What we mean by a good test kit is a FAS-DPD test kit. Your pool store test kits will only test to a low level of sanitizer, and you will need one that test higher. Details are in Pool...

Are there any bubbles in your pump basket? If there is, you've got a suction side leak. What else can you tell us about your pool equipment?

    Everlasting algae...maybe gone now

Welcome to TFP! I think I can answer your question about the test kit. It does involve a bit more reading. http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/124-pool-test-kits-comparison For your second question, this one again involves reading...

    OK - Here's what I got...

John, I'm not sure the "big name pool store" would do that for him. RB, It would be to your advantage to purchase your own accurate test kit. Pool store testing is notorious for being off by quite a margin, especially the CYA test. Check out...

So frustrated and getting more poor!

Welcome to TFP! I have a question or two for you: What are you using to test your water? What are you using to chlorinate your pool? Ok that is out of the way. Your location says White Oak, but what state? It could make a difference in the advice your get here.

Algae forms because pool won't maintain FC level even after slam

High CH will NOT affect chlorine usage. There are several members here (desert southwest) that have dealt with CH higher than yours, and have kept a sparkling pool for years. what it will affect is how high or low you can maintain your pH and TA an avoid scaling. Have you ever used cal-hypo as...

Algae Keeps Coming Back, Even After a SLAM

Do you have any lights in your pool? If you do, clean behind them, after you start another SLAM. I suspect that your FC got below the minimum for your CYA and if there are any traces of algae on pool tools, toys, ladders, and behind lights, or in a channeled filter, that is all it needs to get...

Algae Keeps Coming Back, Even After a SLAM

Could it be very fine dust that isn't being captured by the filter? When was the last time you did a deep clean on your filter? Also, have you tried capturing some of this stuff and checking what it looks like when you try to smear it on a piece of white paper? If it is green when you do that...

    Algae separating after flocculant

Welcome to TFP! There's a couple of things here that we need to know: Are you doing your own testing or relying on a pool store for that? What are your test results? Has that filter ever been deep cleaned? Algae problems are NOT a filter problem, they are a chemistry problem. If you want...

Green pool. First time pool owner

The reduction in FC usage normally indicates you are close to having all the organics killed. Now the pool is changing to the filter the crud out stage, but you still need to maintain the SLAM level of FC.

Green pool. First time pool owner

Don't worry about the TA for now. Put the CYA in a sock, and hang it in front of a return, or put the sock in the skimmer basket. Dissolve your acid in a bucket, then slowly pour it in front of a running return. Check your pH in about an hour, and if it's close to 7.2, start your SLAM. Your...

    My pool guy quit!

The heater is probably not anchored to the pad, they seldom are. I'd leave the filter in, you may still have some of the Nature 2 crud inside it, and it won't hurt your carts.

    My pool guy quit!

It would appear that a replumb of your pad is in your very near future. The Nature 2 system, as you have learned, is the probable cause of your staining. For now, you can shut off and disconnect the gas line at the union next to the heater, then move it out of the way long enough to treat the...

    My pool guy quit!

Do you have room to expand your equipment pad? Your current set-up, while being quite compact, leaves a bit to be desired as far as being able to work on anything. One possible solution: If that heater can be moved about a foot, you might be able to get a pair of unions, and a pair of elbows to...

Getting rid of algae without draining?

The kit your husband bought -- Was it a FAS-DPD chlorine tesing kit? If not, you should add that to it, as you will need it for the SLAM. As Casey noted in the link to the test kit comparison, only the FAS-DPD will measure FC levels high enough to be any good.

Welcome to TFP! Yes, you can get rid of algae without draining your pool. We do it all the time here! I can't help you with the intellichlor, but others here probably can. Do tiny bits of algae forming on pool mean I need to slam the pool agian?

Welcome to TFP! Do you have a set of removable steps? Or a light in a niche? If yes, remove them and clean them out. Those can harbor enough crud that can aid in recurring algae problems. To help us help you better, please add your pool and equipment to your signature, as outlined here.

How long do I need to use POP ?

Since you reported a CYA of 40-50, your SLAM should be no less than 20 by this chart: http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/128-chlorine-cya-chart-slam-shock If in doubt about your CYA, always go to the higher number. You won't hurt anything by doing that, and it would probably help. If it...
