    Cloudy pool

First, you have no cya - which will let the sun eat your chlorine up almost as soon as the sun hits it! It is no wonder you can't hold chlorine. You need to get some stabilizer in there or use stabilized chlorine (like trichlor pucks) right away. Stabilizer doesn't show up right away in the...

OH my i need help !! New pool, first fill, well water, etc

How much sequestering agent did you put in? I would like to see you do another dose of it before you start to shock. The water is clearing now - I can see it on the pictures, but I can't tell if it is just dirty water, or still precipitating metals, coloring the water. I think if you add the...

OH my i need help !! New pool, first fill, well water, etc

Don't worry about phosphates. It sounds like you are making progress. If you could post a whole set of numbers it would be helpful. How long did you let the pool water stand when you used the floc? You do need to have some pool owners patience (POP). I know it is frustrating, but sometimes...

OH my i need help !! New pool, first fill, well water, etc

I agree with using the flocculant. You will need to put it into the pool and wait about 48 hours to let it all settle. You can purchase your pool vacuum head in the meantime :) . I would check online, you can get anything fast and you can check the prices. Your pool is really gorgeous...

OH my i need help !! New pool, first fill, well water, etc

You will need to backwash as frequently as you can as long as the colored water is coming out. How many gallons of water do you have? I usually suggest two times the amount on the bottle if you have a lot metals in the water. You will be getting rid of some of the sequestering agent when you...

OH my i need help !! New pool, first fill, well water, etc

Please relax, you won't damage your pool :) You will however have to use sequestering agent - which is what Jack's Magic Purple stuff is. Anything that says will remove metal or control metal will be ok. Although removeing metals is still open for debate. It is said that when you have metals...

    Shock again?

The Mermaid Queen is right :) we usually mean free chlorine, however, with just doing the ascorbic acid treatment you can be getting a cc from the acid breaking down. If your water is clear, I would keep the chlorine level at 8 for now - check the black spots you are seeing - if it is an...

    Shock again?

Your chlorine is getting eaten up by the ascorbic acid treatment. I would not birng the levels up to shock, unless you think you may have algae- bringing the chlorine to shock may bring the stain back  What you have to do after the ascorbic acid treatment is to keep the level of chlorine...

Lowering CYA by letting algae bloom over the winter?

Hmmmm, mine went from 70 to basically nothing. We do get a lot of precipitation over the winter, so I would say my pool probably gets about 1/2 new water. So I would say it depends on how much new water goes into the pool, as welll as how much is used up with the bio beasties.

Lowering CYA by letting algae bloom over the winter?

Another thing to consider - This year I opened to algae - I let the water in the pool fill too high, and with a mesh cover, and hot spring weather, I had a bad case of green algae. My cya was too low to register, and my ph was 8  . While I did clear the water very quickly with lots of...

    Bacquacil & algae

Yes, keep bringing the chlorine up to 15 every chance you get, until it holds overnight. Keep up the good work

    Bacquacil & algae

Good job, Now just let the bleach do the rest - you will see the hlorine will hold a little longer each time till it holds overnight. How does the water look now? Make sure you keep vacuuming too - I would vacuum to waste, and add fresh water each time. This way you will get all the...

    Bacquacil & algae

You need to add acid - your alkalinity is too high, and your ph is way too high. You need to get your ph in the 7.2 range and try to get your alkalinty down to 100. You can do this by adding acid to take the ph down to 7.2 and turn your return jets up to bubble on the water. This will lower...

    Chemicals needed for pool closing

I just use polyquat 60 and regular bleach to take the pool up to shock. You need rv antifeeze to put into the pipes once they are blown out. Make sure it is the "RV" antifreeze, not what you use for a car. Can't help you with pool co near Baltimore, sorry.

    Should I add Calcium?

First thank you for the kind words. This is what I would do.: I would not add any flock. My friend did when she had the chalky substance, and it didn't help much. If yoiu have a skimmer sock, or an old pair of tights (you can cut the foot off and use it instead of a skimmer sock), us this to...

    Bacquacil & algae

Don't be surprised if you end up with stains after the conversion. I also have a fiberglass pool and use well water. If you get stains we can tell you how to get rid of them, but if you are going to close the pool after the conversion, I wouldn't bother with them. they often just disappear...

    Should I add Calcium?

Yes, this is very consistent with what I have seen this summer. It also happened to my water after doing the stain treatment and adding sequestering agent and clarifier. I thought the same as you, that I may have had som algae, but I am still not sure. I took my chlorine up to shock, and kept...

    Should I add Calcium?

I have seen this chalky sediment a couple of times when a lot of sequestereing agent was added to get rid of stains. I think it does something to precipitate out calcium carbonate. Did the calcium go from 250 to 180? Did the alkalinity drop too? I was helping a friend this year get rid of...

strange new color results w/ HTH 5...help!

I was using an old reagent for ph - it was fine at first, but then it started to behave really strange. The first test would look almost yellow - so much so that I did it again to see if I made a mistake by using the chlorine reagent instead of the ph one. Then after trying it again, and...

Split from Green, Green, Go Away!

I never heard of that either. I have a fiberglass pool, and never had it turn green with low calcium and alkalinity. Which it has been for short periods of time after a stain treatment at the beginning of the season. I do use calcium in my pool - I keep it around 200, and run my pool with...

Need a little help CL not staying in

What was you cya before? Now that it is down to 0? again, you will have to add stabalizer, enough to get you to at least 30. You ph is too high, take it down to 7.2, it will help your chlorine work better. You can take it down with ph reducer or muriatic acid. You will have to keep taking...

    What happened to my CYA?

I am not good with the chemistry  - ChemGeek or Waterbear can answer these questions :-D . The holding chlorine overnight is how you can tell if something is eating your chlorine other than sunlight. Cya stops the sun from burning off the chlorine, so if you have no cya, then testing...

    What happened to my CYA?

I know that cya can b e eaten by organics - I usually lose my cya over the winter. If you haven't been adding a lot of water, maybe it is time to shock - have you tested if the chlorine is holding overnight? In the beginning of the year it took me a couple of weeks for my chlorine to hold...

    Water keeps getting cloudy

Swimcap, I agree with duraleigh, I don't think you are dealing with metals either. For those of us who are  , one reason to run fill water through the skimmer first when using well water is if there is high chlorine along with high ph, and not enough sequestering agent in the water, the...
