    how much 0870 powder

I did some testing awhile back. I did 13 tests in a row using brand new chemicals. 11 of the tests were done with a 25ml sample and 2 of the tests were done with a 50ml sample. (For the 50ml tests, I doubled the powder, and counted each drop as 0.1ppm.) I did find that using two heaping...

    CYA Testing Procedures

Waterbear, From your description, it sounds as though you can do things to make the test read low, but it is unlikely that the test will read high. Is this correct?

    CYA Testing Procedures

The instructions for the 9193 and the 9197 say to mix for 30 seconds and then slowly transfer cloudy solution to view tube. Did you notice any difference between reading immediately after mixing and reading 2 minutes later? I would think if the two minute wait was important, they would tell...

Out of whack pool - additional advice appreciated....

Update. I re-tested everything tonight. Here is where things are at now: pH ~7.3 (2 drops of acid demand make it a solid 7.2) FC 17.0 CC 0.0 TA 230 CH 360 CYA 120 (55 when diluted 50/50 with distilled water) 1.) Is there some scale I can use to adjust the measured pH based on the...

Out of whack pool - additional advice appreciated....

That is the approach I'm taking. I added almost all the soda ash he had, and will recommend that he begin immediate water replacement. I'm too concerned about the heater to wait to raise the pH by water replacement (even if it does raise the TA). At what level of active chlorine do the other...

Out of whack pool - additional advice appreciated....

No, Leslie's version of the Taylor K-2006. The TF-100 didn't exist yet when I bought it (neither did this forum  ). I'm leaning toward washing soda instead just because of the volume of Borax required (double the washing soda). Of course this will affect the TA more... :?

Out of whack pool - additional advice appreciated....

I stopped by a friend's house to help him with his pool tonight. The pool is a vinyl IG with a deep end, 24" sand filter, and Hayward 400k heater. He claims it is about 30,000 gallons. The pool is crystal clear. He was concerned about the TA test going from green to light gold (instead of...

    bleach and vinyl liner

Someone the other day talked about having a 26 year old liner. They were running Baquacil in the pool up until just this year (I think). If the chlorine (even at low levels) is slowly fading the liner, it it also slowing destroying it (or making it brittle)? Does anyone ever hear of people...

    bleach and vinyl liner

Someone around here was going to do a test once with several pieces of vinyl and different levels of chlorine. Does anyone know if that ever showed anything? I was just over checking a friends pool last night. It has a 2 year old vinyl liner and is distinctly faded exactly at the water line...

Problems Measuring Ph - Which Test Can I Trust?

I just got off the phone with the company and they said they are an OEM and do not rebrand anyone else's products. They also gave me a link to an nice comparison page between their TDS meter and other's. Here is the link. :)

Problems Measuring Ph - Which Test Can I Trust?

I'm planning on purchasing one of these pH meters: PH-200 It has an accuracy of +/- .02. That seems a lot better than the other testers I've see out there. I've found it at here for $84.99. I seem to always have difficulty determining exactly which color is the closest on the normal pH test...

Help with Taylor K2006 PH test

You're talking 20 minutes to do a test if you're CH is 400. Do you really wait this long? Is the long delay between drops because swirling is an ineffective method of mixing, or because it takes that long for the reagent to properly interact with the liquid under test? I've seen a unit down...
