SWG is on the Fritz - Need Chlorine Level Input

If you know how much you are losing daily…2ppm etc figure 4 days and add that much… Depending on cya level you could add some pucks in floater. Otherwise I would raise to slam level.

    High chlorine

Salt doesn’t increase, probably the margin of error in test kit. Cooler temps and less direct sunlight reduce CL burn off. Adding cya saves CL too. So just keep an eye and reduce swg % as needed.

Small pool weird readings comparing machine to dip strip

Machine reading as in pool store?

    Combined Chlorine > 0.5

A: ignore pool store tests, trust your own. B: If you seldom see .5 cc, you generally don’t have an issue. Maybe poor circulation, maybe a hidden spot on ladder/ skimmer etc. that have a spot waiting to bloom. Maybe swimmer load? I would check things over, then maybe even raise to slam level a...

New Pool - Need help balancing!

For the most part FC is always the first concern, keep it in recommended range( not minimum) to help prevent algae. Don't overshoot cya additions, you will have to drain or exchange pool water to lower if excessive. Same with salt. Most of the rest are tweaked over time, some determined by...

Impact of salty water in bleach-only pool

Salt accumulation due to using chlorine is no different than salt in the pool for swg use. Short of stainless steel, any exposed metal will rust or breakdown regardless when exposed to the elements.

  8. Msch99

    High PH?

Yes you can. You need to add more chlorine too! Your cya is 20, don’t use numbers in between the lines, use next highest. Your FC should always be >2 per cya/chlorine chart. Having said that, with a salt pool/SWG you should have a CYA of around 70 for best results.

I think temp has an effect. Try tracking and entering a temp maybe? Can turn back off if need.

I have some test results and need to know if I can shock or SLAM my pool.

Between rock and hard place..,cost a ton to try and slam, not even sure you can with CYA 200. Betting experts recommend exchanging to at least 70 or 80 first. Phosphates don’t really matter, proper chlorine levels kill algae.

    All's well....except TA

FYI. Round up the CYA. 45 counts as 50. 😀
  13. Msch99

    Do I need to SLAM?

My motto: Hesitation and indecision can be killers. I would rather slam and not need it than the other way around. Cheaper and easier to burn a bit of chlorine for a couple days instead of a week or two weeks of full blown slam. The experts here are very good! Trust them!

    tf-100 test results

An FC below 5 is an invitation for an algae bloom. Never let FC get below 5, 5 is the go/no go for algae! Your target for a CYA of 60 is 7-9 ppm. I would worry more about that than PH. Your heater should be fine at 7.2. Folks do it all the time when slamming or during normal TA lowering.

  17. Msch99

    CC 1 to 2 ppm

Target FC is 9-11 for 80 CYA. Absolute minimum is 6 or inviting algae issues. Unless you have SWG, then minimum is 4, target is 6. But don’t see swg in signature.

pH meter and the mysteries of pH

I bought a meter, but never use it anymore. Even if I am off on the color a bit, .2 doesn’t really matter much.

    Relationship Questions

Deleted most of my post, splash gave better answers anyway! 😃 curious as to CYA level when it wouldn’t hold chlorine…shouldn’t have to raise to 60 cya to hold it. Unless PB only using tabs to add CL? Then it probably wouldn’t raise fast enough. Are you using liquid chlorine too or only tabs?
  20. Msch99

High CC levels with acceptable FC, why?

A couple of things that will help on cya test. 1). Re read instruction, sun behind back is important, don’t ignore like I did at first…sigh. 2). I hold at eye level, add to 100 mark, then lower and look for dot, if see it, raise up fill to 90etc, etc. until you can’t see dot with quick...

    Combined Chlorine

You are ok to enter the pool at slam levels for your CYA. So up to 28 FC for CYA of 70. :)
  22. Msch99

    Combined Chlorine

Always round your cya reading up if between numbers. With cya of 70, your target FC is 5, so your barely over target at 6. Particularly now that you have added more cya. I would try to maintain never below target, especially if you have some concerns. Or when others taking care of pool. A...

New Pool, not much CYA Okay?

I would order the kit now so you know for sure what your cya is. Pool store tests are notoriously unreliable. Be a bummer to have to drain some because you overshot cya. Or need to slam because FC/CYA ratio wrong. My 2cents

    Red burning eyes

Safe to swim with 80cya at 31ppm FC when slamming, so 7.5 easily within safe zone for FC. Hope the experts can pinpoint something! Any recent additions or changes?

Water tests are bouncing around - please help

“Shocking” means different things to different people. We don’t shock TFP pools the way pool stores recommend, once a week or whatever. If you maintain your FC levels per the FC/CYA chart referred to above you won’t get algae. The only way to do that is with one of the test kits referred to...

Awesome job keeping your good humor during all this! Helps to have side benefits of sympathetic and helpful experts too!

    High CYA and High Clorine

Different pools seem to like different PH. Mine likes 7.6 to 7.8 , hangs there quite awhile. Anywhere between 7.2 to below 8 you should be good. Take a bit to find your own sweet spot. Don’t know what perfect weekly is, so can’t help there. Got lucky and found TFP before being pool stored! 😀
  28. Msch99

    Normal chlorine loss?

I would increase FC to 7 or 8 when dosing. 4 is minimum, and yours dropping to 3 daily. Flirting with another bloom. Stay closer to lower target, not minimum.
