Can my pool store be 'really' wrong

Those pool store results aren't even THAT far off. This spring I tested my water just before a trip to the pool store to buy some DE for my filter. Just for giggles, I let them test my water. PH was dead-on 7.5 and CYA was 40 by my results. They came up with a PH of 8.5 and a CYA of 80. Of...

What do you use to measure liquid chemicals?

97 cent plastic kitchen measuring cup from Walmart here. Pyrex (or any glass) near the pool is not a good idea. If you drop and break it, the slivers that land in the pool will instantly disappear. At least until they stab into someones foot.

    my 2nd pool store test

Just as a reference point for you, I BBB'd our pool back in the spring and have not had to shock it a single time since then. :-D I just maintain the correct chlorine level and enjoy the most sparkling clean pool ever. 8)

    Adding Acid

I don't like to pour chemicals directly into the skimmer as I don't want to chance damaging the pump, filter, valve seals, etc. as that high concentration goes through them. I just go around the pool and pour some out in front of each return. This mixes the chemical into the pool water quite...

I must be missing something, assistance with chemicals pls!!

Add it in the evening. Sunlight quickly degrades chlorine, so by adding it in the morning you limit how much time it has to work its magic. :(

My inline chlorinator can't keep up (high CYA)

No, I don't like to have high chlorine levels going directly into the pump and filter. I just pour it into the pool, about 1/4 of the bottle in front of each of my 4 return jets. My pump runs until 9:30 and I try to add the bleach between 8 and 8:30. This mixes the bleach into the water...

My inline chlorinator can't keep up (high CYA)

Tim, I'm just up the road from you, in Gtown. I keep my pool sparkling like bottled water with one 96 ounce bottle of bleach from Walmart every evening. When we first bought this house it was almost impossible to keep the walls from turning green. I had the tab feeder wide open, tabs in the...

Fine dirt but from bad material choice

I'm not familiar with the other cleaners on the market. Everyone that I know here that has a pool has a Polaris cleaner. 8)

New water tester sold by Frontgate

Frontgate always has interesting stuff. When I used to travel for work I would browse the pages in their inflight catalogs, but their prices always kept me from ordering anything. I wonder how long the reagents last? It says that you get 10 refills with the unit. Is that good for...

Fine dirt but from bad material choice

... What model of Polaris do you have? I have a 280 with the fine mesh filter bag and it doesn't leave ANYTHING visible behind on the bottom of the pool. If you have the leaf bag I would suggest an upgrade to the fine mesh bag.
