I think you might have trouble keeping them both in place, depending on how you anchor them. I picture the bottom one sliding out of place below the top. If you get that sorted out, I don't see any reason you couldn't use the old one on top.

Just dump it slowly around the perimeter, then brush the pool to mix things up a bit.

If you don't cover it, you could easily just maintain the pH using muriatic acid. Keep an eye on FC as well since the leaves will use it up!

I don't think you can really close the pool while leaving the spa open...and even if you could you'd probably spend far more on a cover, etc, than you would save on electricity. love the minecraft pig.

With brand new plaster you're going to need some muriatic acid as well...probably at least a few gallons.

Look at the topography around your area...flat? Hills, ditches, ravines? That can give you a reasonable guess sometimes. But, like jbliz said, safest way is to dig a hole... :(

Yeah, I wouldn't think the air would be enough to spin it. I would probably try taking the top off, pulling out the gears/valves/etc, and then blowing and plugging each line individually.

I think if you just plug the skimmers and blow out the equalizers, it would get the water out of the skimmers too. Anyone disagree?

That seems like a reasonable cost to me, but that just comes from reading other price quotes on this site. Hopefully someone else can comment.

Open up your filter and check for tears in the cartridge, that will definitely let dirt through. Or, sometimes the carts may not be seated correctly in the manifold.

I had an identical issue that I lazily left for 3 years. When the pump started in cold weather, the bearings would squeal until the motor warmed up. It probably is not an urgent repair, but it sure is annoying!

Welcome to TFP! And the US! I love Scotland...we got to spend a couple weeks there last summer; I even got to hack my way around the Old Course! As you suspect, you'll be fine with no cover or winterizing, just making sure that the system runs when the temperatures are below freezing...

I assume that this precaution is to prevent ice from forming around the lights and breaking the glass? How close is the water level to the lights? They're not meant to be permanently removed...you'd have to pull the wire all the way out of the conduit! I think your plan is basically sound...

We don't close here, but from what I've read on the forum, that is unusual. I don't think there would be any harm in putting some plugs in.

Something like a Loop-loc or Meyco cover is generally what's recommended. Sort of off topic...if you spend summers in Alaska, when do you swim? :scratch:

Are you sure you even need to close it? Unless you get prolonged below-freezing temps, there's no need to. You'll have to manage the chemistry all winter, but there'll be much lower FC use as the temperature drops. I think it sure looks nice to keep it open all year too...

I wouldn't leave it up; with the soft sides, any ice that forms in the pool could easily poke a hole in it.
