    Using 2 winter covers

I think you might have trouble keeping them both in place, depending on how you anchor them. I picture the bottom one sliding out of place below the top. If you get that sorted out, I don't see any reason you couldn't use the old one on top.

    Closing advice needed

Just dump it slowly around the perimeter, then brush the pool to mix things up a bit.

    Closing advice needed

If you don't cover it, you could easily just maintain the pH using muriatic acid. Keep an eye on FC as well since the leaves will use it up!

How to winterize an IG pool in the SW?

I don't think you can really close the pool while leaving the spa open...and even if you could you'd probably spend far more on a cover, etc, than you would save on electricity. love the minecraft pig.

How to winterize an IG pool in the SW?

None of us bother to close...just like you :) Why would you want to? Then you'd be looking at an ugly cover all winter.

    Owner built gunite startup chemicals???

You're still going to need it, even if not in the first couple weeks.

    Owner built gunite startup chemicals???

With brand new plaster you're going to need some muriatic acid as well...probably at least a few gallons.

Finding out Water Table for Dallas Texas

Look at the topography around your area...flat? Hills, ditches, ravines? That can give you a reasonable guess sometimes. But, like jbliz said, safest way is to dig a hole... :(

How to blow out Paramount In Floor Cleaner and when?

    Nope, that's what I was picturing...sorry I wasn't more precise!

How to blow out Paramount In Floor Cleaner and when?

Yeah, I wouldn't think the air would be enough to spin it. I would probably try taking the top off, pulling out the gears/valves/etc, and then blowing and plugging each line individually.

Blowing out lines with different plumbing.

I think if you just plug the skimmers and blow out the equalizers, it would get the water out of the skimmers too. Anyone disagree?

How the price on the looploc

That seems like a reasonable cost to me, but that just comes from reading other price quotes on this site. Hopefully someone else can comment.

    Dirt in the Pool

Open up your filter and check for tears in the cartridge, that will definitely let dirt through. Or, sometimes the carts may not be seated correctly in the manifold.

    newbie closing pool in Houston

I had an identical issue that I lazily left for 3 years. When the pump started in cold weather, the bearings would squeal until the motor warmed up. It probably is not an urgent repair, but it sure is annoying!

    newbie closing pool in Houston

Welcome to TFP! And the US! I love Scotland...we got to spend a couple weeks there last summer; I even got to hack my way around the Old Course! As you suspect, you'll be fine with no cover or winterizing, just making sure that the system runs when the temperatures are below freezing...

A quick double-check on lights when closing

I assume that this precaution is to prevent ice from forming around the lights and breaking the glass? How close is the water level to the lights? They're not meant to be permanently removed...you'd have to pull the wire all the way out of the conduit! I think your plan is basically sound...

    Why leave the system 'open'

We don't close here, but from what I've read on the forum, that is unusual. I don't think there would be any harm in putting some plugs in.

    Empty a fiberglass pool

Something like a Loop-loc or Meyco cover is generally what's recommended. Sort of off topic...if you spend summers in Alaska, when do you swim?

Closing IG Pool in northern California

Are you sure you even need to close it? Unless you get prolonged below-freezing temps, there's no need to. You'll have to manage the chemistry all winter, but there'll be much lower FC use as the temperature drops. I think it sure looks nice to keep it open all year too...

Winterize Intex EasySet Inflatable Ring Type?

I wouldn't leave it up; with the soft sides, any ice that forms in the pool could easily poke a hole in it.

What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilling?

Re: What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilli It's probably not glued; what looks like glue probably is (should be) teflon pipe dope. How sure are you that it's leaking at that connection, and not somewhere like the pump lid or drain plug? Those spots are much more common, and...

What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilling?

Re: What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilli Rock, you gotta have your pump lids on and tight if you ever want them to prime :) With the pumps below water level, there is essentially no way that a pump could lose prime with the lid on. Make sure the o-rings are seated (they...

What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilling?

Re: What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilli If your pumps aren't priming, it's because you've got a bunch of air getting in. Check the gaskets on your pump basket lids. As for the filter, You'll never get all the staining out of it. As long as you don't have any more obvious...

What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilling?

Re: What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilli It's gonna take you forever to add CYA that way; you're better off using the sock method or just dumping it in the skimmer so it ends up in your filters. You said above that you didn't find the answers you needed re: acid...

    Creature in pool ~ Identification?

I don't know what it is, but I don't think it's a dragonfly. Some kind of nymph for sure. Chlorine will kill them off eventually; keep at it!

What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilling?

Re: What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilli Yikes, mothers day is tomorrow! I think your plaster is gray, you have scattered bluish copper stains, and a bunch of calcium scale. An acid wash should remove both the scale and the copper stains. If it's an option, I still...

What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilling?

Re: What maintenance would you do with a pool before refilli Yep, once you get the pool refilled there's lots to learn about water chemistry. Pool School (button in the upper right corner of the page) has all the info you'll need. If you search the forum for "calcium scale" you can find a...
