    Air compressor-closing pool advance thought

I thought about the cost of having to repair a broken underground pipe and also the abuse my GF would give me if I screwed up the closing of her pool. When I though about it the cost of the cyclone seemed like an easy purchase and not really that expensive. I figured that buying the cyclone and...

    Skimmer cover

When still in Wisconsin, after I blew out the lines and added some antifreeze down the skimmers into the lines I used a "Gizzmo" in the skimmers. As an extra precaution I'd take the gallon antifreeze bottle and crush it just enough to fit into the skimmer with the pour end down between the wall...

    Antifreeze for skimmer basket?

Might be they didn't drain enough water out but hard to say how much rain you've had. I can't remember my level ever getting to the skimmers before it freezes and we have snow. After the lines are blown out I dump a gallon of RV antifreeze down the skimmer and then insert a gizzmo liberally...

    Trouble blowing out main drain

Plenty of people say you can do it with a shop vac, I never tried. I finally broke down a couple years back and bought the Cyclone. I made an adapter that screws into the skimmers and I blow to the pump. Works great and with this year I figure I've paid for the Cyclone in not having the 125-150...

    Starting up pool procedure

I was in the same boat. I watched a number of youtube videos, watched the guys from the pool company do the closing and read the article here on TFP. For me opening isn't much at all it's closing that's important since here in Wisconsin we get a good solid freeze and anything not done right will...

Closing pool without dropping water level

If you plug the return lines there isn't any way you're going to suck the water out of those lines. They will freeze and crack.

Modified Cover for Hayward Super Pump for Closing Swimming Pool

Recycling the old covers is a smart move and I'm guessing $$$ in their pocket. I kept my old one for that very reason. Finally managed to talk my GF into buying a cyclone last year and letting me close the pool. Couldn't' see spending almost $150 each year closing it but was so scared something...

Modified Cover for Hayward Super Pump for Closing Swimming Pool

To cut that hole you can pickup a hole saw kit for 10-20 bucks at harbor freight or any big box store. It's main use is for drilling doors for locks and handles but comes in handy for projects like this. If you have a drill press all the better but it can be done with a steady hand.

    Opening Pool for First Time

Have you tried to prime the pump and looked to see if there's water running out of drain holes at the bottom of the housing ?? If you can't find out where the plugs go as a last resort you can start up the pump and listen for a sucking sound around the pump or water shooting out somewhere on the...

    closeing question about sand filter

No worries. I've missed more than my share of info trying to punch out a quick reply. I think the guy was trying to say draining will get 90% out. Makes more sense there might be around 10% in moisture left behind but I haven't had a problem with it.

You may have missed where I said this: I found this in another thread but I'd have to say I've never seen the guy who close the pool do this step I was just trying to be through. closeing question about sand filter

Just remove the drain plug at the bottom, the site glass, and the pressure gauge. Leave the rest. Put the multiport on "Winter" or if it doesn't have a winter setting put the multiport between any two settings and that's it. I found this in another thread but I'd have to say I've never seen the...

JoyfulNoise you are correct except . . . RV is usually pink. Automotive Dex-Cool for GM's is orange. Small thing but don't want someone to make the mistake. Either one should be safe around rubber. The RV especially as it's used in the water system where there are usually rubber O rings, washers...

    Welcome to the swamp!

Have you tried to just use the TFP method to clean it up without using flocculant ?? I know I used to use it as part of the "try this" from the pool store but since switching over to TFP I've found I don't need it.

    Refilled Pool

:goodpost: What he said. It's just a lot easier to put it in a sock and hang it. Doing it this way insures it all goes into the pool and should you need to backwash you're not flushing the CYA down the drain.
